Brakes are important. So if they don’t work, they should be fixed. Well, it’s GOOD NEWS!!! I’ve finally got the calipers changed and the new pads in place. So all that’s left is to reassemble everything. However, as it is an Audi, it looks like this picture.
Okay, maybe not that bad, but the point remains...
How to fix an Audi:
Disassemble car
Cry because you do not have enough money to fix it

Why does the front end need to be removed to service the brakes?

It’s a VW product, so this means that servicing it will tend towards the complicated side, and everything must be done in one specific order.
Example: If the brake hardline is installed, it is not possible to remove or install the upper caliper mount bolt.

Reminds me of the countless hours removing plastic covers and 1/8” skidplating off my father’s 650GS to access a drainplug. Good times.

Woooooo for Germany!
I've got to disassemble the front end of my A4 to stick a new windshield washer pump in. Yayyyyyy! Fun!!!!!!! Faaaachk!!!!!!

Might as well replace the timing belt, water pump and accessory belt tensioner while you are in there... :)

Haha, PO did the timing belt at 100k probably. So I'm in the clear for that. It's all worth it in the end though, this car has asked so little of me. Knock on wood, but I actually mix fixing stuff this car has been so reliable.

I know quattro is amaze balls but damn. I couldn’t work on that.
Remove the fan (2 minutes) and you have a good 6 inches to work with (phrasing). #FR4lyfe

Or you could deal with a W124 4Matic Benz, where the front differential is in the oil pan casting.
No, I’m not kidding. quattro is a cakewalk compared to this.

Ehh but how often do you need to do anything to the diff, compared to getting at any accessory on an Audi?
Still …. thats not a elegant solution.

But if you have to drop the oil pan, then it gets complicated.
RamblinRover has a W124 4Matic lying around somewhere that someone in his family drives.
I’ll take sliding the lock carrier forward (equivalent to removing the fan in your case) on a B5 Audi over the 4Matic oil pan.
