All thanks to a bloke in a 2nd gen Focus who may or may not have been either insane or drunk.
I was driving home from a gas station on Woodward this evening having filled the 944 with some spare change I had in my pocket. Once I turned off Woodward, I noticed a red Focus that was struggling to stay in it’s lane to my right; I made no worry about it, until it got in my lane. I’m coming up to the next light up ahead and traffic is slowing down. The 944 has great visibility all around so I’m able to check my front, sides, and rear. That’s when I see through the back hatch and rear-view mirror, this Focus barreling towards my rear end as I’m coasting at least 3-4 car lengths behind the traffic ahead; it’s going well over 40mph and I’m just thinking to myself “ Jesus fucking Christ! Holy shit! Please don’t let it go down like this ;_;”. All of a sudden, I see whoever it is slam on their brakes hard, as I make a quick lane change into the middle intersection turning lane on the left so as to avoid it. And it follows...
We’re both at full stop as I patiently wait for the light to turn green so I can get away from this crazy person. The light turns green and I carefully turn with the intention of getting into the right lane. As I make the turn, I’m checking behind me, and I see this crazy trying to overtake me from behind to get in the same lane I’m turning into on my right side! I don’t know what they were thinking, they damn nearly curbed the sidewalk as I speed away from him, at first doing 45 in a 40. He speeds up and is tailgating me like a mother; I’m not having it, so I speed up to 60, and starting to pull away slowly, but he’s still on me. Next, I rather quickly merge between the decent-sized gap between the two cars ahead of us, using my turn signals, and thinking maybe he’ll slow down, stay behind the car I just passed, and I’ll get away at the next light to go straight home. I don’t ever go through traffic or between cars in that manner, especially in my 944, or the ST, or any car for that matter. I don’t like to take risks like that. But NOPE. He follows suit, doing exactly what I did, except he didn’t use the turn signals like I did, nor did it ever the entire time this happened. Under no circumstances, was I able to let this person pass me, traffic simply wouldn’t allow it.
I finally get to the next light and turn right when it hits green and quickly turn right, and the Focus is still behind me. It finally ends when I see him going into the left-hand lane to turn into what? A fucking liquor store...I went straight home after this 10 minutes of craziness.
I hope I never see that car again, or even a driver like that again. This was the first time I’d ever been in such a situation, I’m not entirely sure my decisions to get away from this crazy driver were the best, but it was the best that came to mind, considering the safety of others as best as I could.

He wants to do this:
So he can escape his miserable crapcan Focus and ride in a much better car.

Should have called the law!

yeah, sometimes its ugly stick malfunctions, causing it to swing side-to-side

Scary. Glad to hear you and your car are okay!

Not if he’s got any alcoholic beverage, that crazy bastard’s not setting foot in my car.

Kinda hard to drive the 944 and use a phone at the same time; I just can’t do it nor do I wanna risk it. If I could have, I would have, but I was too focused on getting away.

Is that some sorta scientific explanation?

Thanks much!

Well he envisions that happening. But in reality your 944 should always be locked up like this.

Mmmmm nah. More like this:

I would.

It keeps civilians from approaching since it’s “run-down”, and allows real car guys to meet you because they know this is cool.

And I can rain hell fire and swift vengeance and fury upon the plebians.

Come on! They were all out of Fireball - it was an emergency!

Had they actually done so much as hit me, this is the Fireball they’d see.

Ugh, that sucks. Glad nothing happened. I’ve had encounters like that before, and they seem to be just as freaky every time.

2 things:
1. always make worry about the car struggling to keep its lane
2. you must have enormous pockets if you’re able to fill up with pocket change

It was my first encounter of this kind. I’ll never understand why it happened, but At least now I have some idea of what to do, god forbid that situation happens again.

1. Will definitely do
2. I may have worded that horribly. I had a $5 bill as spare change from a meal I had earlier. Since I never seem to have cash on me at any time, I just call it spare change, or spare cash. I tend to use both terms.

Probably someone who is a) completely wasted or b) gets enjoyment out of pissing people off. I just kinda always look out for it. Luckily, I haven’t had anything happen out of a situation (just a few VERY close calls).

I’ve had quite a few close calls, but this one takes the cake.

I just pull over when people like that are around me. Just toss the hazards on, get over, wait for them to get some distance, and carry on.
Not worth the risk, trouble or potentially getting shafted by a cop over trying to get away.
/ask me how I know

There was nowhere to pull over until that last turn, and even then I wasn’t sure if he would slow down, hazards or not.
