Since you guys don’t like buying the Chevy SS and many people on here want more cheap, bare-bones cars, I’m here to make a deal. You guys send the SS up here to us Canadians and we’ll buy the shit out of them (you can find G8’s literally everywhere). In return, we will send you a bare-bones car since you’ve been asking for one.

I present to you, the 2015 Nissan Micra S:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

It comes with a 1.6L 4-cyl mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It puts out 109hp and 107lb-ft of torque and it only weighs 2302lb. It’s rated at 27mpg city and 35mpg highway.

Standard features include:

- 15” steelies with wheel covers

- Crank windows and manual locks

- Basic AM/FM/CD radio with aux port hooked up to 4 speakers

- A 4-way manual driver’s seat

- 60/40 rear folding seat

The base Micra has only 3 options:

- A 4-speed automatic

- Air conditioning

- Cruise control with steering wheel controls

Here’s the real kicker, this car has a low price of $9998 CAD. Now, do we have a deal America?

Sincerely, Canada.

hey look a steering wheel with no buttons, or black little covers where buttons go, to remind you that you didn’t get “all the bells and whistles”.

I guess, it’s just that living in the UK there are ten rivals better than the Mirage and Micra, they’re probably the worst in class right now. So I tend to look down on them a bit haha.

Yeah, why don;t they sell it down here? It already meets US standards since Canadian standards = US standards, and if they can price it below 10k in Canada with a small economy of scale, then they can definitely price it at like $9000 in the US, with a much larger market.

The US *needs* low-cost new cars like this.

Kinja'd!!! AM > Brian, The Life of
05/12/2015 at 19:44

Our import laws are way better! We can import anything made before 2000 :)

Kinja'd!!! LongbowMkII > Twingo Tamer - About to descend into project car hell.
05/12/2015 at 19:48

Kinja'd!!!0

The mirage is probably one of the worst cars available here as well(hence, creativity). I haven’t driven any of them, but if the Micra was sold at ~9k (us)the closest competitor would be the mirage at ~12k(us). That’s a big price cut. Although an extra thousand (13k) would likely get you in a base fiesta sedan(1.6l here)

(its nice being able to compare cars internationally, this really wouldn’t be possible 10 years ago)

I haven’t seen a single Mirage here and a couple of Micras. Mostly people just buy a Vauxhall, Fiesta or a Hyundai.

Kinja'd!!! AM > dogisbadob
05/12/2015 at 19:53

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah I never understood why they don’t sell it there. The only regulation we have that is different is that it’s mandatory for our cars to be equipped with DRLs which I don't think the U.S. mandates

Kinja'd!!! AM > Twingo Tamer - About to descend into project car hell.
05/12/2015 at 19:54

I wish we had Vauxhall in Canada! Not going to lie I'd be driving an Astra VXR instead of a Jetta.

Kinja'd!!! dogisbadob > AM
05/12/2015 at 20:03

The US doesn’t mandate DRL’s, but they are allowed, and many if not most US-market cars do have them.

Kinja'd!!! AM > dogisbadob
05/12/2015 at 20:05

Kinja'd!!!1

Yup, other than that one standard, everything else is straight from the US (except our import laws).

Also, it could just be that Nissan likes us Canadians better because the 2016 Maxima is already on sale here while you guys have to wait until the summer.

Kinja'd!!! DasWauto > AM
05/12/2015 at 22:55

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah, I know the import rules. I wonder if GM will consider selling it here since most regulations are the same or similar between the two countries and they already sold a very similar vehicle (the aforementioned G8) here before.

Kinja'd!!! AM > DasWauto
05/12/2015 at 23:45

Kinja'd!!!1

They could easily bring the car to Canada, all they would have to do is change the gauges to show km/h as the primary unit. Also, all of our regulations are the exact same as the US other than our government made it mandatory for all cars to have DRLs and the US hasn’t.

What you have pictured is actually a midlevel Micra SV starting at $13600. The Micra S (the $9998 one) has unpainted mirrors and door handles.

Kinja'd!!!

I actually went and checked out an absolute base model when the first came out and it is surprisingly roomy for what it is and it seems to be decently put together.

Considering Americans aren’t buying the Mirage and this is as shitty if not shittier...

Really don’t get why they keep wanting what they don’t have and then don’t buy it when automakers listen, in reality these kind of cars are really not apropiate for American roads and way of life; same goes for most Euro economy cars that aren’t sold in the US.
