Achievement Unlocked: Get Power! Next step is insulating. Just going to do the wall I want to build the work bench on for now. Anyone done something similar?

Sort of similar. I bought a house that was built in 1959. No insulation in the walls so I've been taking one room a year down to studs and repairing, insulating and re-rocking.

I’m just insulating a new garage. I will likely just do one wall for now so I can build a workbench on it. Really need some shelves!

Would love to have a garage so new! Going to upgrade from 60A to a 100A panel this summer. Would love to insulate the other 2/3 of the garage too!

I can’t wait until it is completely insulated but really the winters haven’t been that bad. Helps the re-sale value though. I made sure they put a big ol’ panel in mine. Ethernet too!

Keep an eye on woot.com they've had some shelves off and on the last couple weeks.

Just go buy the batting insulation & a stapler, way easy.

I got a bunch of free wood, so I'm lining my walls with that. It's a work in progress.

Nice! I put a wifi extender in my garage. Great for the wifi thermostat, it’s nice to turn the heat on an hour before I get there!

Nice. I’ve got to finish the light wiring and sheetrock in mine. It had a room built into 1 side as a crafts studio, which would have been cool if I weren’t me. So I sledged that bastard right out to make more room for cars.

I wired up 3 outlets on each side wall, one in front & one in back, wired in a sub panel. I also want to put up a 220v heater & some metal halide fixtures.

Right now I have too much stuff in there & spread out to be able to get anything done. Eventually I'll have both rabbits , jeep, and motorcycle all in there with some space.

I’m just about to start gutting the bathroom. I’ve done the living room and much already. I turned the porch into a dining room and built a mudroom

Ya that would be nice, I don’t see myself heating it full time but might put a space heater on a timer in the winter!

we just ha da realtor do a walk thru. we bought the house for $235k and she recommended putting it on the parket for $390k. Probably $70k in materials so that would leave a Telsa in my pocket (but i’ll never get approval from the Mrs for that so i’ll take the $85k and invest it in our next house.

i want to move to the next town over. the lot sizes are smaller and the land in less expensive per sq ft so when you pay x amount for a house in that town vs my current one more of your money is in the house and not the land. So for the same price i’m getting 1/3 of the land but could get an extra bedroom and a 2 car garage.

Ya, I bought a house on a smaller lot so my property taxes would be lower so I could spend more on the house/garage. I still have a 60/25 foot yard so its not like its super small either!

Jesus, I’m working on sealing the base of the garage around the concrete pad. Hope it never gets like that.

Well thats good, I remember pulling apart an old shed at a friends when he bought a house. I think the mold was actually the only part holding up part of the wall.

This wasn’t held up by much more. About 2/3 of the garage had a foundation, but the front 1/3 did not. The roofline made a slight U shape instead of going straight across... we had to knock the wall down, pour a foundation and shove a new wall in...

Next Monday I move into a new house with a detached 3 car garage. Same state on the inside. I think I want to insulate and drywall the ceiling (at very least!).

It has 100amp!! service in the garage. I can put in a heat-pump AC unit and I’m genuinely considering a 2016 Volt. I have a 12 mile commute to I’m the perfect demographic.

3 bays would be awesome! I’m just insulating and chip boarding one wall for now while everything is away from the wall due to the electrical install. Then I can build some shelving and make my garage usable for garage things!

I know Bacon Sandwich was looking at Volts too! I have been looking for something cheap to commute in too, will probably end up with an old Civic or something just to take the miles off my aging Sonoma.

Tag Garagelopnik if you post any garage related stuff!

I will. That sounds like fun. We bought a house that was completely gutted and expanded in 2012. The foundation and first floor studs are from 1962. Everything else in and on the house is new. I’ve never owned a house with insulation before. Or modern windows.

As for the garage, it’s awesome. Two bays with a double garage door and a third bay to the left with a man door. I’m going full-on wood shop. Build my miter, router and planer into the cabinets with a common counter height. Dust collector (WOOT!) and finally, I will get my cast iron table saw. I will start with the ceiling so if I do choose to heat it, I can actually feel the heat, rather than it just all going up into the attic space.

My wife and I are thinking of going full-on pinko liberal and putting solar on the south face of the garage. It can’t be seen from the street, gets 100% sun and with the new generation of AC solar panels, there are no invertors, batteries or other BS to worry about. Just plug them directly into the breaker panel. I could charge me car for free (after amortization) and tell the power company and the oil companies to suck it.

Then when the house is ‘done’ I’ll get my Conquest, 2002, 914 or full-on 911. And still have a place to park a indoors!

How did you manage to get inside my head. Thats what I wanna do almost top to bottom! I have some basic wood stuff now, miter saw, table saw, and router table. Found an awesome video with Nick Offerman that showed a router jig that can almost replace a thickness planer too so hopefully that saves space. I have just been attaching a small shop vac to the tools for now but a dedicated unit would be great.

I have ethernet in the garage now too so I can even dump an old comp in there!

I would love to install solar panels but I think my street is too tree’d to let a lot of sun in but I do live in a city with 300 days of sun a year.

Between my truck and hopefully something German I doubt there will be much more room for wood stuff though! Interested to see your final set up!
