Anyone know where I could get roll cage steel in Detroit? Looks like I’ll need ~80-100 ft of tube to do a rally America cage on my e36.

at work I always just go through mcmaster for that kind of stuff. You could probably get it cheaper locally though. Also, in detroit proper or a suburb? Its cool to know there are more SE Michigan oppos than I thought.

Alro is probably your best bet for tube stock.

Woolf Aircraft will provide bends, and is great for exhausts, although never tried them for roll cage parts.

If you have CAD done, Cartesian Tube ( http://vr3.ca/contactUs.html ) will do all the bending and coping for you, and it will be gorgeous. Just have to drive ~2h to Ontario to pick it up.

Also, check with Jim at Roll Cage Components - He make cages for everything, and bent a custom kit for my E30 at a pretty reasonable cost.

June’s gonna be pretty hectic for us between power tour and going back to NY, but we’re already thinking of something for Woodward.

You can buy cages for the E36 at very reasonable prices

From what I’ve found, most are for road racing. I can get a rally cage from custom cages in the UK for around $2000. I’m still looking into whether I can get one of those road racing cages and add the extra supports to make it work for rally.

That would be SHAMEFUL

But possibly necessary. Maybe juts park the Montego and then do any cruising with you guys. That’s what hurt it last time the actual putzing up Woodward.

And by hurt it I mean it’s been overheating ever since. I think I fixed that problem with my new Super Cool waterpump and 10* colder thermostat I just installed a few weeks ago though.
