Puttig the transfer case from a Discovery series 2 (wich uses digital pickup for the speedo) into a 1967 Land Rover series 2 a 109 inch because we’re converting it to a 300 TDI engine with a 5 speed R380 gear box.

Is there some sort of advantage to doing this, or is it just because it’s easier to find a transfer case from a newer Rover?

About 2 years ago, but we finally have the time to do it now.

This tcase was laying around my buddies shop so I snagged it. It’s pretty much the exact same tcase as older model Rovers just the speedo pickup is different.

Much appreciate it, this 109 my dad pulled out a police scrap yard back in 84 and did a chassis up restore. He used a Ford V6 originally but it does not have unleaded heads so it is time for a change. Modifying a new chassis because the old one is galvanized so can’t weld it.

Probably for the best, at least it gives you a bit more freedom with regards to where you want stuff/body type etc. Is it civilian version or military?

It is an ex South African police pickup (we converted it to a 3 door station wagon) so more military than civilian. Heavy duty leafs, shackles, and Salisbury axles.

+1 for Salisbury. So under-seat fuel tanks and extended leaf spring mounts? I can’t wait to see the build pics, and it might actually spur me on to start stripping the Series III. I promised myself I’d get onto it this summer :(

Yup, all it is missing is the military bumper. Still has the rivet marks from where the mounts for the window grills were.

You should climb into your series and get it done.

I know I know, and I will. I got so far and just stopped. Chassis needs a bit of repair then sealing, leaf springs replaced, full body needs stripped and painted (will probably remove for this), new upholstery all round, and 2 new half shaft seals. That’s it, it’s not lot when I write it out.

No kidding. It's finding the time, and I know that may seem easy but I honestly struggle.

Yeah I know all about that, at this point I spend about an hour after work every day on my Disco (doing the 100k mile service and replacing all the gaskets while I am about it)

I think that's gonna have to be my game plan too, especially now we're in the summer months. Sometimes I'm absolutely shattered though!
