Despite all the GM hate the last few years, there are still some areas where they really excel in:
1. HVAC systems - Desert temperature heat on command and arctic temperature air when you want it.
2. Steering/Seating position - Almost anyone can find a comfortable driving position in a GM vehicle. Also, the steering wheel will tilt lower than most other cars, I like having my wheel all the way down.
3. Ease of repairs - GM vehicles have almost always been extremely easy to repair with the exception of Cadillac (which are a bitch to work one).
4. Smart Key systems - I really like that they use the buttons on door handles to unlock rather than the touchpad on the back of the handle. This makes it easier to use when wearing gloves, etc. Also, I like that there is a button on ALL door handles rather than just the drivers or fronts, makes gaining access to the backseats much easier.
5. Interior quietness - Most of the GM lineup is extremely quiet inside and I find it’s something they have always been pretty good at. Sure there are a few models that aren’t the quietest but for the most part, their cars are quiet inside.
6. V8 engines - Ain’t nobody make a V8 like Chevy does, enough said.
Anything else that they are exceptionally good at?

Making special versions with high performance and proper suspension tuning that don’t get enough attention. That is due to either lack of advertising or GM purposely keeps it stacked within their deck.

Yes, I should have added this. Especially the suspension in the Camaro 1Le which is breathtakingly good.
Also, even though people get into huge debates about whether or not GM can be credited for creating the MagnaRide system, it really doesn’t matter. I say this because GM’s current Magnetic Ride Control setup is far superior to any other automaker’s system.

GM in general is very good at making fantastic engines and wrapping them up in crappy cars.

They’re not all crappy. Unless of course you consider the C7 Vette, new CTS-V and ATS-V to be crappy.

Last few years or so have been different. I’m talking about 1990-2010 GM.

GM should’ve also received more recognition for:
1. Introducing the first heads up display systems in the late 80’s early 90’s and likewise the touch screen display systems that came in the Buick Riviera through Reatta and Olds Toronado Trofeo
2. Introducing night vision on the DeVille years before the other luxury brands.

Speaking of older tech, GM has a huge list of things they had first such as the electric starter in Cadillacs!

I had a ‘76 Fleetwood with automatic high-beam dimming! You just left the high beams on all the time and whenever the light sensor had enough light it kept them off. If it was dark in front of the car, high-beams on!

The GM cars I’ve driven extensively have been great highway cruisers. Comfort and fuel economy.

They did let themselves go for a while. They are turning it back around though and that gives me hope for them!

My Yukon is the most comfortable car I have ever owned and I’ve previously had a BMW.

About the V8’s, yeah sure.

If they weren’t the best there wouldn’t be an LS swap for literally every single car.

Not true. By that logic, the Prius is the best hybrid/electric vehicle, the Camry is the best midsize car, Walmart is the best place to shop, and McDonalds is by far the best restaurant. Just because it’s cheap and accessible, doesn’t mean it’s the best.

Don’t you dare diss Walmart! It is the best place to shop (aside from auto stores, costco)
