Voici la Renault Clio.

She is a girl.

Voici le Renault Captur.

He is a boy, even though he is basically a rebodied Clio.

Kinja'd!!!

No, don’t ask me. Wikipedia.fr thinks that he is a she BTW.

You’re totally spot on on that! But, to be fair, most automakers don’t use any article to tlak about their cars. Like when showing a new car, they won’t say “the new Clio” (La nouvelle Clio), but rather “new Clio” (nouvelle Clio), since they are proper names.

But yeah. SUVs, and Minivan are mostly male while the rest is female. Though some people still say “la Scénic”, “la Cayenne”, which is killing me.

Yes, I had to plough through quite a lot of renault.fr before I came to a “le Captur”and even then wikipedia.fr disagrees. There’s no consensus on “le crossover” or “la crossover” either.
