Brands Hatch on a sunny spring day sure does take some beating. And a nice selection of the worlds finest GT3 machinery and drivers certainly doesn’t hurt. I couldn’t make it for race day tomorrow, but went today for the qualifying sessions. Glad I did, those boys are really pretty special.
Not one, not two, but three WRT team Audi R8s. Not quite a works team, but near as makes no difference.
The Sean Walkinshaw Nissan. Do love the R35 GT3, sounds mighty, and something that big just shouldnt be that fast.
Rinaldi Ferrari. Not being driven by ‘that guy’ (see Monza 2014 video of this car meeting every gravel trap ever)
Joining the Nissan in the Too-big-to-be-that-fast club, the Bentley GT3. Sadly only one of the two HTP cars were still running. Their second car had decided to become closely acquainted with a barrier, and is out for the whole weekend.
Is, is that thunder...? oh no, just a Mercedes. Glad they are keeping this engine in the new SLS GT3.

Team Brasil BMWs do sound really rather lovely.
oops, two wheels on the grass there is likely to require new overalls at the next stop.
I was not a huge fan of the MP4-12C, but the 650s is just stunning. They have taken away all the fussy details of the old car, and whats left is just mean looking.
What Bernd Schneider doesnt know about GT racing isnt worth knowing. I think at one point in 2013 he had won every GT race he had started that year, including the Spa 24h, N24h, a selection of 6h races etc.
Reiter Engineering and Lamborghinis are just right together. Love the noise of these beasts.
Audis clearly the car of choice. 4 from WRT, 2 from ISR and 2 from Phoenix mean almost half the grid is from the Ingolstadt marque.
The GP loop at Brands is such a nice place to spend a day. Very green (which says a lot about British weather...) but a lovely backdrop.
The Sean Walkinshaw Blue is very pretty. It looks much whiter in pictures, its not at bright as Gulf blue, but not far off.
The 888 BMW was a guest entry from the British GT championship. Thank god for GT3 rules, making this sort of thing possible.
Qualifying Time:
After a slightly damp morning, by 5pm for qualifying the sun was out.
Most of the crowd had already gone after the GT Cup race, but the handful that remained got to see the cars on low fuel and new tyres getting round the whole GP loop in 1.23. Mad.
Big stop up into Druids at Brands Hatch,
Most of the cars were grounding out through Paddock Hill. Proper mans corner.
The pole was eventually set by the #1 Audi, a car which I have no pictures of..... It crashed in free practise, and I didnt get any because it was one of the 4 WRT Audis, so I indavertantly ignored all of them. Whoops. Anyway, Laurens Vanthoor was untouchable around the GP loop. 2 Races tomorrow streamed live and for free. Worth a look.
Bonus Round: GT CUP
Supporting the Blancpain was the British GT Cup championship, a sort of catch all series which takes everything from Riley DPs, to GT4 Aston Martins and Lotus, GT3 cars, and a pretty wild 800bhp Porsche 935 thingy. BEAST!
An old spec Riley DP. Not entirely sure how this counts as a GT car, but I’m not complaining. Was an interesting addition.
GT4 Aston looks very small and simple in comparison to its big brother (below) especially when they are the same car underneath.
As a Norfolk native, there will always be a place in my heart for a Lotus. Especially one that spits fire.
FF Corse brought 4 Ferrari GT3s to play. because why have 1 when you can have 4.
The aforementioned 800bhp Porsche, in amongst some more modern machinery.
Ice Cream sponsored race car, with celebrity baker driving (and winning) on board. Not bad.
This car has won 3 races in 3 weeks too. Won the GT4 class in British GT last weekend, the Britcar 24 the week before, and now the GT cup in class. Impressive.
Another GT3 spec Audi, this time run by United Autosport, looks very good in their livery I have to say.
Hard to beat Brands Hatch as a backdrop.

I’ve always been an open-wheel guy but when I saw the Pirelli World Challenge cars at St. Pete this year I very quickly became a fan. GT3 is absolutely awesome.

I love the GT-R GT3s but man that front opening looks massive. They could easily swallow one of the BMW Z4s or Ferraris.
