Here’s a Peugeot 905, which was first raced in 1990 and went on to win at Le Mans in 1992 and 1993, filling the podium in the latter year.
Peugeot promptly pulled out of sports car racing and instead developed the 3.5 litre V10 for F1, where it was used with a conspicuous lack of success by McLaren. In the 905 it produced 650 to 700 bhp depending on spec at around 12,500 rpm. Not very ambitious compared to the 22,000 rpm screamers that followed, but they didn’t have to last 24 hours.

I always looooved the biplane rear wing. The lower one just acted on the diffuser to drive it. Massive downforce.
