I’m considering selling the ubiquitous Racescort. The Racescort started life as your typical 1991 Ford Escort GT: someone, I’m sure, was very excited to have it. Then in 1999 a fellow in Ohio purchased it and decided to sacrifice it to the gods of speed. What would later become the Racescort was born.

$500 in DOM tubing, a pair of racing seats, a set of gravel tires, and what I surmise to be a rally computer later, the up and coming Racescort became a fully fledged rally car.

After that it was purchased by an Uruguayan gentleman. I’m not totally sure because I’m locked out of Facebook right now where this story is photographically chronicled. However, she changed hands a few times and eventually went back to the Uruguayan gentleman from whom, yours truly purchased said vehicle of mass hoonage.

When purchasing a racecar, one does not simply purchase a car. One purchases a lifestyle. And a shitload of car parts and tires.

Rock Bottom was there, he can tell you. Plus the gas leak, that was fun.

Anyway, I have come to a point in my career/life/je ne sais quai where the Racescort isn’t pushing the right buttons for me. She requires some work, electrical, which I abhor but is generally a great racecar.

She’s getting long in tooth and has had a great run. I’ve had her on her back and in the bushes more times that I’d like to admit. Truthfully, I don’t expect much for everything. $2000 is about what I’m thinking but that comes with everything:

Custom top mounts, hot bits rally suspension, KAAZ 1.5 way diff, adjustable rear lower control arms, these are the highlights among a ton of other stuff. The car comes with about a pickup truck bed full of stuff.

All in all, I see her ending life as a LeMons car or something of the sort. One last hoorah. The logbook was destroyed by mice, the cage is out of date, she’s way too overweight to race in anything else but that cage will keep you safe in a crash.

I want to buy a 4C and I need the cash and the garage space. I will deliver within about a 100 mile radius. What's everyone think?

I don't want to support it on my own anymore. Lemons is a team sport and I am running out of steam carrying the torch alone.

I can see that. It is had to keep people going. Good luck with the sale if you go that way. Have you thought of putting it up on the Lemons forum?

I’m not on the Lemons forum. I have t posted it to Club Protege or Special Stage which I used to participate frequently.

A cheap rally car is on my list of things to do, but I need more space and a garage before I can go for it. I'd be very tempted if I could. I daily drove a Tracer for years so I know the car pretty well.

I daily drove that car for about 3 months and it was pretty awesome. I feel like $2k is a decent deal for a car considering it will cost you more than that just to get a cage put into a car. It admittedly needs some work and requires a good word with the technical director of Rally America. Fortunately, he and I are on good terms so that's not a big deal.

I can vouch: this car is awesome. I think it has engine work done too, since it felt “cammier” than my 1991 Escort GT did. I should add that it has a header. I assume you fixed the fuel cell leak??? Also, you will now have nothing to drive through The Tank Trap . I just want to remind you of that.

I’m actually pissed that you’re selling it after all the trouble we went through to drive it (and a Subaru full of spare parts) from Minnesota to Kansas. The entire country of Uruguay is also displeased.

Come back to Detroit. We can get a LeMons team to run it here. That or Targa Newfoundland.

Just remember that my mom drove it back from Kansas.
