From the Planes You’ve (Probably) Never Heard Of Department of Planelopnik, we bring you the Curtiss XF15C.

The Curtiss XF15C was a mixed-propulsion prototype Naval fighter that was powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-2800-34W 18-cylinder radial in the front (the same engine used in the P-47 Thunderbolt, F4U Corsair and F6F Hellcat) and an Allis-Chalmers J36 turbojet in the rear. It first flew in February 1945, and three prototypes were built. While the arrangement showed promise, advances in jet engine performance caused the Navy to lose interest in the mixed-power concept and the project was canceled in 1946. The first airframe was lost to a landing accident, the second was scrapped, and the third resides at the Quonset Air Museum in Rhode Island.

I didn't either. My grandfather had an AC lawn tractor way back in the day. When I first read this, I looked up AC and learned that they manufactured all sorts of things, not just tractors and jets.
