So I recently went to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to knock something off my bucket list thanks to my awesome girlfriend. That item was “Drive a Ferrari”. For my birthday she booked me 5 laps in the Ferrari 458 Italia. So here is my review of the whole time I spent there.

First off this is not your only option to drive fancy cars in Sin City. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is also near by and provides a similar experience. I did drive by but did not actually go in to that location since time was limited. One of the coolest parts of the Dream Racing experience is the location. You are located on the in-field of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway as opposed to the Exotics Racing location between the track and the highway. Dream Racing is located below where the terribly drawn red star is, you can also see the track just to the south of it in this picture. While I was there we saw lots of people doing the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on the full oval which looks and sounds awesome! There was also a B52, two Warthogs, several Predator drones, and tons of fighter jets all taking off and flying quite close to the track from near-by Nellis Airforce Base.

You arrive at Dream Racing to see several awesome cars parked outside the building that seemed to be begging to be thrown around the track. I arrived to see Ferrari’s Porsche, McLaren, and Lamborghini all waiting patiently. Without even stepping inside I was already blown away in seeing these cars up close, this was a lot for a guy from Canada growing up in a coal mining town.

The inside looked exactly how you would expect it, a mix of Forza and Apple to me. There are places to get all sorts of Super car manufacture merchandise like coats, shoes, phone cases and so on. Free water, snacks, Redbull and so on are provided if you are hungry/nervous. The place is decorated in a great deal of auto memorabilia and trophy’s from some of the drivers. A Formula 3 Drivers Championship and British Touring Car Championship are the ones I remember off the top of my head.

The first you do is check in and get a wrist band saying what you are driving and proving you sign the “This is a race track, bad things can happen” waiver. They typically wait until there are 3-5 people people ready to go drive in order to take the group to the orientation room. You get escorted by one of the employee through the paddock (pretty cool as well) to a meeting room. Here one of the co-drivers run through the basics of driving on a track, talks about the track itself, and gives you a general overview of the experience.

You are then taken to the simulator room. Here there are several instructors that run you through the track on a set up that was based off the 360 Modena to get you used to the paddle shifts and brake times. For someone who has played as much Forza as I have I had a really tough time with this for some reason. I started to make decent lap times by the end though the instructor insured me that the simulator was way harder than the actual thing. With the “Jesus, I hope he’s right” mindset we were taken down to get ready to load up.

The waiting area was a nice, shaded, track side location. When it is about your turn you get a big ol’ helmet to put on and the call your name to jump into the car. The co-driver I had was a super nice guy that tried to calm a very nervous Lumpy44 before heading out. The inside of the car was a stunning mix of Italian design along with all the go-fast buttons that I had no inclination of touching. I decided to go into full automatic mode (I know, I know) because I wanted to go fast first and foremost and I knew the car could do that better if it had control of the gearbox. I adjusted the seat and looked towards the mirrors until the instructor said not to worry about those since you will have your hands full with what’s in front.

So I pulled off for 5 laps of the Dream Racing track in a Ferrari 458 Italia. Just being in that car is an experience and driving it is an awesome one. I really find it hard to describe. I leaned a lot on the instructor who assured me that at 45mph the car will make a 90 degree turn that I felt would send me off into wall of the NASCAR track. The first few laps you spend quite a bit of time just gliding around between the turns until the two straights where it is full hammer down. By the final two laps I was full throttle between corners and full brake when needed. The instructors are awesome in that they will push to make sure you go fastest and have the most fun. While I was on track there was a Ferrari GT car along with the drift Camaro and my girlfriend in the Cayman GTS. I will never be able to understand how that car accelerates and brakes but it is something you have to try.

If you are ever in Vegas make sure you do this at least once. The Cayman only cost $200 bucks for 5 laps and it is well, well worth it. The whole experience takes about an hour and a half though you are only in the car for about 7-8 minutes. One thing I would do next time is get a cheaper car for more laps rather than an expensive car for fewer laps. For someone who hasn’t or doesn’t very often drive cars from this realm throwing anything around a track will cause a huge smile. This whole experience was awesome from the cars, to the track, to the staff!

TL;DR: Go do this, its awesome.

Here is me with the ride!

I don’t care what anyone says, Supercars are awesome. Tracking a 12c at Brands Batch is still the joint best thing I’ve ever done behind a wheel.

The wife and I went to Vegas for our honeymoon and at one point I had tried talking her into letting me go do this. Ended up not being in the budget but I would like to go back at some point.

I’ve been here, and second every part of your review. I drove the McClaren, which was fantastic. Not cheap, but totally worth it to get some laps in a supercar!
