There’s a car meet near me that’s actually not half bad. It keeps getting moved, though, because idiots do burnouts and stuff. Well, we finally got to a really nice location at an indoor kart track, and then some fucking asshole kid in an STI decided to floor it out of the lot at like 80. Another kid in a 370Z was driving responsibly and turning into a gas station. Then this happened:
Eight cops showed up and told everyone to go home, and there’s not a chance we’ll be invited back. I hope the STI kid is banned for life, and I hope the cops believe that the 370Z kid wasn’t doing anything wrong.

The best part is the owner was revving his engine earlier, and his girlfriend said “I can’t believe you haven’t wrecked that thing yet.”

Tell me again how kids need 300hp in their cars? What an asshole. It’s dicks like that making parking lot meets more and more difficult to get organized and accepted.

I keep hoping no one at our local Cars and Coffee events ruins it for everyone else. Lots of idiots burning rubber in parking lots down the street from the event - one of these days something bad is going to happen.

Man fuck that. So tired of people who pull shit like this giving enthusiasts a bad rap. Almost makes me glad I don’t have a cool car so people don’t instantly assume I’m some douchebro like that.
![]() 05/08/2015 at 09:30 |

Yeah. We really need heavy police presence at events like this so that the idiots know to go somewhere else.

Hooligans are the worst. It takes one asshole to ruin everything. I feel really bad for the poor guy in the 370z.

Better start bring a digital tire pressure gauge.

Ours has a cop that does all the traffic, and he just shakes his head the entire time. I am surprised they don’t have officers doing radar a 1/4 mile in either direction. The department could start rolling in Lambos like in Dubai.

Exactly! I honestly feel like the majority of “enthusiasts” are like these guys. You know, “street racing is only bad if you don’t know how to drive, bro.” That just seems to be the common opinion around here, and I really think there needs to be heavier punishments for stuff like that. STI kid in this situation should have his car sold and the profits donated to the families of people killed by speeders. Then his license should be taken away for ten years, and the test to get it back should be a lot harder than the regular one.

I seriously think they need to start using seized street racers as undercover police cars. Not only would they blend in at meets, but a lot of them are legitimately pretty quick.

In Canada they crush them...

I would say that Oppo definitely attracts, at least in part, a certain breed of enthusiast that represents a pretty small portion of the total enthusiast population, or at least the total young enthusiast population. Lots of people on here are interested in cool, new, fast cars and crazy performance mods, but a lot of people also like weird, old, quirky stuff too and/or just appreciate the hell out of what otherwise boring car they have. Easy to forget when you’re surrounded by people like that that most of the people who share our interests are somewhat more… I don’t want to say narrow–minded, but they definitely have different tastes.
I totally agree with you on this absolutely ludicrous attitude on street racing that seems to pervade some subsets of enthusiast culture. I’m not sure what types of punishments would actually be effective in mitigating this, but the world would certainly be a better place if there were fewer people doing shit like this.

I had a 500 hp car at 19 but I didn't floor it out of car meets to look cool. It's really not about horsepower, it's about not being a stupid idiot.

Irony, thy name is STi kid.

My county has two.. One is an undercover riced Civic hatch with a 2JZ swap they seized... And the other is a riced Eclipse also seized.. They come to the meets occasionally and mainly curb street racers!

YMMV.

It could have been worse, but this kinda crap, I have no sympathy for those that cause this to happen. In fact, I laugh my ass off at them and record their failure with the intent of showing it to others so they no not to be an asshat.
This is why I go to a C&C where it’s mostly adults who bring their kids. They know not to act like dipshits with and in front of kids; they’re responsible and wise enough to know the difference between right, wrong, and stupid.
I hope the guy loses his license, his car, and his girl.
EDIT: The cops have every reason to believe the guy in the 350Z, he’s got an entire audience to prove it.

Biggest advantage of going to these meets in a stock 13 Civic.. I just look like I’m minding my business on the cruises.and when shit goes down I just move over a lane and go below the speed limit..

I’m pretty sure a cop takes one look at the bra on my car (it came with the car when we bought it, I leave it on for weird sentimental reasons) and sets his brain to grandma mode.

I left a local “car club” because of crap like this. A bunch of idiots in Evos and hondas actin like you’re nothing if you don’t bounce off the rev limiter in a drive thru. They had a meet at a karting place and a very similar thing happened - idiot gunned it and lost control of an evo that he borrowed from a friend. Smashed it up in front of the karting place.......Also like half the people were driving on suspended licenses.

I keep one in my SL now. I should probably check the batteries though, its been a while.
What if Ive been on low tires all this time?!

Some dumbass in a lifted diesel Silverado decided this would be a good idea leaving our C&C type event. I’m afraid they’re gonna shut us down now :(

That’s actually a really good idea.. Maybe whoever runs the Cars/Coffee meet can get with local officials and see if they can come to a compromise on how to handle the meet? Maybe pay the PD to come out and run security for the duration of it? The church I go to does that for Sunday Mornings.

They didn’t seem to ask for witnesses before shooing everyone away, though... The location of damage on the cars and the spot of spilled coolant at the parking lot entrance should be enough to prove he wasn’t at fault, though.

Hey Rainbow! Can you get me our of the gray? Your post has inspired me to write about our local Cars and Coffee events.

Being followed by Oppo or having a comment starred by an Oppo authoer will get you out of the gray, but a mod needs to give you authorship rights.

Alright, I didn’t know how those details worked, I used to have Oppo posting abilities but I changed my account set up and am back to square one.

I’ll post up on the main page and see if a mod can help you out. Usually they look for an established comment history, but it looks like you’re pretty well established to me.

What a douchecanoe. Feel bad for the guy in the Z.
At Katie’s Cars and Coffee there’s usually a few assholes revving and doing burnouts. Usually it’s the midlife crisis crowd though. There’s also always a pair of cops either walking around and looking at the cars or idling somewhere nearby though. It’s a good deterrent and probably a pretty good way to start the day, haha.
