Skoda’s in the shop under for warranty repairs (already!) and this is my loaner.
I was hoping for the 2.0D 3 series tourer that they have as a courtesy car, but I’m not that good of a customer to BMW/Mini, just a bloke who bought a second hand Skoda. Apologies to anyone who likes/drives one, but the 1.2 petrol is gutless and driving it makes me feel really self conscious. I actually shrunk down in my seat when an R8 pulled up next to me at the lights.
I shouldn’t really complain, it’s a car after all, and it will serve it’s purpose for the next week. But urgh. Anyone want a review? I’ll be impartial, I promise!
Also, boot space is laughable :(

The good old days of the supercharged Tritec are best.

You should see a citroen C1, VW UP! or similar tincan car. i could elbow the rear glass from the back seat without even trying. you could fit maybe 4 grocery bags in it...

It’s not bad for cabin space actually, but there’s no rear legroom. At least the Up! and C1 are cheap!

Thanks, it’s my work bag and it’s full of dangerous things like calculators and survey tape...

Ah, the new BMW MAXI.
List of cars that have smaller wheelbases:
Mk4 Chevy Camaro
Foxbody Mustang
Ferrari Testarossa
MkIV Supra
R129 SL
Alfa 75
Porsche 928
I suppose that’s a bit of an unfair metric as the new MINI has wheels pushed right out to the corners. Lets try weight (this is for the Cooper S). These cars are all lighter than the Mk3 MINI Cooper S
BMW E28 525i
AMC Gremlin V8
Koenigsegg CC8S
Rover P6 3500
Leyland P76
R32 Skyline GTS-T
Alfa 75
Holden Commodore VL Turbo
Triumph 2.5PI
Lancia Thema Turbo 8v
Honda Civic Type R 7th gen
Ferrari Daytona
Ford Mustang SVO
Volvo 142
The Daytona has a god-damn 4.4l V12. And probably more boot space as well...

Haha! Made me do a genuine lol :D maybe the engine isn’t so bad then? It’s just got it’s own fat arse to haul around.

Lol, my former patrol bag is now my laptop, coffee, and lunch bag

Haha you wouldn’t like the Twingo then. 60 mighty horsepowers and a boot that is technically there, but not very useful for things.

But I would, because it’s light and cheap and probably delivers its power better. This thing is heavy and expensive and full of chintz and LED mood lighting. My 60hp MkI Punto was better.

It is very cheap and light, very revvy engine. Makes you feel like you’re going faster than you are (not fast at all).
I hate the way the new Mini looks, a friend has a 2003 Cooper and it’s a nice car (not to my tastes though) but the newer one is hideous to my eye. Plus his Mini is a bit more powerful than the new One which helps.

“...but the 1.2 petrol is gutless”
It’s actually a 1.6 so it shouldn’t be! Maybe you’ve become used to diesels and their torque.

True, but how many out of that list would meet modern crash regulations? How many have hot and cold running power everything? Catalysts, soundproofing, power steering, larger diameter wheels - they all add weight.

It’s their 3 cylinder 1.2 petrol fo shizzle, the 1.6 can be nowhere near that bad... I’ll check the documents tomorrow for any info.

Ah yes, I was thinking of the previous model.

I have since learnt that the 1.2 has more hp and torque than the old 1.6, and that the Mini has a button for ‘Mini Driving Mode’: Eco, Mid, and Sport. This is something I have to find, what’s the betting that I’ve had it on Eco all day?

That, or you had the handbrake on...

The 7th gen Civic Type R would have a good shot at most of those things. Perhaps not the same small-overlap crash performance as that’s really come on in the past few years.
Beyond that you’re absolutely right. It’s just all pretty much stuff I don’t overly care about...

There’s definitely not a sport mode button. The engine sucks.
