Meet the Peugeot 605, made from 1989 to 1999.
Designed by Pininfarina as were all Peugeots then. Despite the family resemblance to the Alfa 164 they were not related, the 605 sharing a platform with the Citroen XM.
It was available with a NA 2.1 diesel which could hardly get out of its way.
It was replaced by the 607, which I had completely forgotten about until Wikipedia reminded me.

I get it’s a joke, but having seen them both in real life the 605 is a much, much better design. In good condition it’s a very pretty yet understated car. It’s said to drive very well too. Had I been interested in a large 1990s highway cruiser I’d consider one. A 605 that is, not a Camry.

Its one of those luxury sedans that are interesting just because they are such left field choices (just as its successor the 607 or its main competitor, the Renault Safrane). I think its a good looking vehicle but only interesting if it comes fully loaded for bottom end prices or you are an enthusiast looking exactly for this model.

Hard to find outside France I would guess.
I haven’t seen a 605 for years and I don’t see the much more recent 607 either. Or the Safrane for that matter. The Vel Satis that followed tat is getting scarce too.
(Google, Google...)
343 available
here
to my surprise.

You see them surprisingly often in Finland.

There are a few on mobile.de but I expected to find more. Plenty of 607s for sale tho. Most of them probably went to Africa by now.
