I’ve ridden motorcycles with bigger engines than this, and yet, I couldn’t have been happier when I found out my rental was a Seat Ibiza 1.2TSI. I would have turned down a fully loaded Focus for the chance at the base Seat subcompact simply for the novelty of driving a Spanish car in Spain. So I took the Ibiza to the heart of the Pyrenees to see what it’s made of, and buy some ridiculously cheap Andorran booze.

So how was it? in a word, alright. The engine makes adequate power. The shifter was decent. Handling was nice but nothing special. I found the interior pretty bare but it looked nice for a car this low on the food chain. I like Seat’s crisp styling, it’s much more pleasing than say it’s comparably dull VW Polo sister. My biggest complaint of the car were the seats, an hour spent atop them will produce a dull ache in your lower back.

7.5/10 Would drive again, but mostly just in Iberia.

Bonus: we caught a couple of McLarens mating on the side of the road.

Nice! Reminds of when I drove a Skoda in the Czech Republic!

Getting a rental car that perfectly fits it’s environment in one of the simple joys in life.

Not so much ‘mating’ as daylight ‘dogging’.
