If your car ever had it’s rockers, chin spoiler, or bottom of the rear quarter painted from the factory more than 5 years ago, likely enough it is showing it’s age. With a rattle can of flat black rustoleum, a little elbow grease to clean the area being painted, and some masking tape, you can make your car look alot better in 20 minutes. Going to do one more coat, better to do go light than have drips. See results:

Teach me your ways, I need this in my life. My rockers are beginning to rust!!

Mainly my question is about paint prep and what is needed.

Luckily the rockers on the Magnum are just plastic, but I still have to pull them off to re-mount them. Maybe that’ll actually happen soon even.

Might just go with some flat black paint underneath to protect it better.

lol what calzonegolem said. If you have rust it is all about the prep work. Sand it down, get EVERYTHING off it, than I would likely use POR-15 with a brush on it

POR 15? Also what grit?

I was thinking of starting with the paint chips in various places, but I am not convinced that will help me prepare for this project.

I use rubberized undercoating for the same application. Looks dope, and protects better!

POR-15 is magical. My car has a date with a can in June.

Previous owner of my XJ did this to the fender flares while they were on the thing (really not hard to take off) and clearly oversprayed the tape. Siiiiiiigh.

I ended up getting rid of them altogether because (one blew off on the highway and) I trimmed the fenders for MOAR CLEARANCE. Thing looks like hell.

Ah well I kinda meant step 3 to imply multiple beers.
