Went to get my eyes checked yesterday and get new glasses. My optometrist has done very well in his field and has half a dozen locations. He’s also a car guy, having previously owned a Dinan’d 535xi wagon, Panamera, Leaf (wtf?), few 911s, and still owning an RS5. We got to talking about cars and he mentioned his 550i lease was almost up and asked what I would buy with $100k. I told him I’d get a Vantage a he agreed but then he mentioned the AMG GT. I said it wouldn’t be a bad idea, and mentioned it pretty much holds its own with the Porsche 911 Turbo so it’s plenty quick but it’s pricey. We talk a bit more and then he does the exam (verdict; not blind). After the exam he comes over to me and shows me a picture of a light blue AMG GT in someone’s garage. “My brother just got it, now I have to get one”. I’m currently getting my adoption papers in order but my hopes aren’t high.
How would you like to wake up in the morning and have to choose between an AMG GT and an RS5 to drive to work?

I’d be choosing between a Jag XJ220 and the same XJ220, because I consider one of those to be worth two alternatives - for uniqueness.

It would be easy. Unless there were snow on the ground, AMG.

We should of went to medical school. I know a dermatologist, and she makes around $500k a year. Most of it from botox and collagen injections.

I would like that very much. My general clumsiness means that if I went into optometry many of my customers would probably leave in worse condition than they arrived though.

My family friend/financial advisor does $1,200,000 a year - and he went to a shitty college!

Good lord...

You don’t even need to go to college to be a financial advisor!

“okay which one, A or B, A or OH JESUS I STABBED YOU IN THE EYE!”

Not sure if want. I heard the interior quality is exactly what you’d expect from an entry-level Italian car.
This one had a 2014 Corvette but he said the amount of recalls and the clutch made him get rid of it.

It still sounds like a Maserati, and that’s all that really matters, isn’t it?

My facepalm was for the botox and collagen. I can’t fault someone for profiting on the vanity of others...

I suppose so.

I have no clue what happened there.

As long as one is in van form.

I’m almost sure there’s a way to have a trailer hitch on an XJ220. Maybe glue it on like the rest of the chassis stuff.

It would be pretty easy to choose the AMG. Though my old optometrist had a 575 and a Vanquish, so that choice would be a little bit more difficult.

What do I feel like driving this morning, a Mini, a BMW, or an F-150?
Shockingly, there are times that the correct answer is F-150.

Mine would be the choice between a Pilot, a Willys, or a BMW. The Pilot is a lumbering beast, the Willys is leaking all sorts of stuff, so I guess the BMW.

You were saying?
![]() 05/06/2015 at 11:26 |

Here’s how things went down last week.
Mini: Had a flat tire (No spare, because BMW)
BMW: Needed a new windshield gasket (and rain yields “le leak”)
Audi: Needs new front brakes, an insurance policy, and a tag
Triumph Sprint ST: It’s raining...
F-150: Nothing broken on it...
So I drive the F-150 to work. About halfway there, the wipers pack up, in the rain.
Cue resorting to removing an arm from the spindle, and holding it out the window to scrape water off the glass.

That is exactly what I was saying.

It’s obviously the correct answer for anything involving an XJ220.
Remove Jag body, display in art museum.
Plop on unassuming Transit body.
????
PROFIT!!!

It’s insane! Takes about 15 mins to do the injections, and costs about $800. Not sure what her supply cost is, but damn!
