07 hemi who’s AC has crapped the bed for the last time. Carmax car, and I have taken it to them for the last 3 fixes. This time I want to have it actually fixed, and since it has the carmax warranty, I really have no issue with dealer pricing right now. As a matter of fact, I don’t care if they feel they have to replace the transmission and fog lights to make it work, just so long as they can bill carmax for it. So Northern Virginia / DC outskirts, does anyone have any recommendations for good service shops?

Is the AC compressor dead, squealing away, or is it just not blowing cold air?

It’s got leak somewhere, and keeps losing charge. No odd noises.

The previous times you’ve taken it in for service, have the lines been replaced? Just curious and trying to get a clearer idea of what the problem is.

I cant recàll everything at the moment, but I believe that the last trip they replaced one of the lines. Mostly, I think it was just a charge and see if it holds.

I’ll let you know what it is, I know you have the Magnum in 5.7 as well.

I think you are about at the point of pick the dealership group you want to deal with and chances are they have absorbed a chrysler dealer at this point. The nearest one to me, Manassas, has changed hands at least once since the last time I dealt with them. But to be fair that was when I was dealing with electrical gremlins in the wife’s Neon in 2007 or so.

Given the car is under the Car Max warranty, I would collect all of the previous bills for this specific issue and request to speak directly to a service manager about having the complete AC system replaced, compressor, hoses and condenser. While they take things apart, it may require new Power Steering fluid as well, because the PS cooler is mounted to the front of the condenser.
Now, replacing the condenser means also replacing the trans cooler, and depending on mileage, a trans fluid flush wouldn’t be a bad thing, the same thing with the PS fluid.
Now, what I would do is grab a paint marker or something similar, and put a small dot or line in an ambiguous point near a fitting or on a hose, and request all the old parts from the job. When they call you and say it’s ready, make sure you get the old parts, check for your mark, and react accordingly. I did a lot of work on my Magnum last summer, and I replaced all the radiators in an afternoon with a fellow Opponaut. It’s a pretty easy car to work on too, lots of space.
I don’t know enough about the CarMax warranty to know if you can get reimbursed or have another dealer do the work and bill for the time or not, but I would go after them and be able to call them out if they don’t actually address the issue.

Good thoughts... Especially the paint pen. As far as the work goes, needs to be a shop with ASMP cert techs, but I can take it to anywhere that meets that criteria. I think. It just means a $100 dollar copay instead of the carmax garage $50.
