then I decided to put my beer down and investigate further...
Still a manual 635, but god damn does it need some help in the cosmetics department

Perfect from far, and far from perfect.

oh yeah. It looked so right on the BBS’s and all shiny from the drivers side.

Foz!

Meh. Paint can always be fixed pretty easily.

oh yeah, typical 80’s clear coat issues. No rust so I suspect this one baked in the Arizona sun at some point

Hopefully it is as rust free underneath.

Very nice. Good spot.

it was. Couldnt have been from up here with that weathering

Looks fine to me. This is jalopnik, not concoursenik. No rust? Good to go.

Yeah but once it gets here from the desert it doesn’t take long for the rust to kick in.

Couple observations:
1) Here’s a city that knows how to use space. Build upwards, have all kinds of businesses above the street, including a kick boxing/ Rex-kwon-do dojo. Legit. Beats most cities dead-ass downtowns.
2) In the continental US, you probably cannot get further away from Mesa Verde than in this location right here, so I guess they figured there’s no way someone from Colorado would show up and talk shit about their Mexican food.
Bonus observation: Bad as it looks, it’s way better than the i3, which looks like a fancified Scion.

Way, way better condition on the clearcoat than my car. Fuckin multi-layer “Rauchsilber”.

Poor old girl... If mechanically sound, it could be a good purchase in the current condition (assuming it could be brought back). Can paint like that be “corrected”, or is a full paint job the only solution?
![]() 05/06/2015 at 10:04 |

oh yeah, the one where when the clear goes the flakes look like they stand up out of the paint

I would just repaint in a situation like that, or do a “beltline up” job if the shop was good at matching
![]() 05/06/2015 at 10:12 |

I think it’d be terribly hard to match. Even if the color match is spot on, the finish won’t match. I guess they could paint the top and then polish and clear the whole thing...
My car has acquired a lot of little rock chips on the hood. I think at some point I’m going to have to get it resprayed, but I’ll just try to do my best with Dr. Colorchip for now. The patina of a car well-loved and -used, right?

I would just stay up on it with the touch up! Meh it is amazing what a decent shop can do on a match

I need to learn Larry’s ways (AMMO NYC)...
![]() 05/06/2015 at 10:38 |

It’s more that the top layer grinds away and leaves portions of the car in silver while others stay more of a gold color.

oh yeah duh SMOKE silver. It was the true silver that would look so damn rough

I’ve gotta find a decent 635 before the prices go up too much.

ugh i love the sharknose!

No rust and no dents, respray it and you’re good to go.
