I’m not against Lexus by any means. But ClubLexus makes me question why I associate with Lexus sometimes…The picture is an example of what you might see.

“Just look how many Audis and BMWs don’t even have xenon lights in 2015 or how about that Audi A7 with manual transmission and manual cloth seats. That is far away from luxury.”

I have never gotten in a car and though hmm, no xenon lights this isn’t luxury. Oh my god you’re rowing your own you peasant THIS ISN’T LUXURIOUS ENOUGH.

Also electric seats never made sense to me. I adjust my seat once when I buy the car and then leave it alone, seems daft to lug around a load of motors for that. Even if you share the car with someone of a very different size pulling a couple levers isn’t that hard is it?

Lexus is the best luxury car brand around, but the LFA just wasn’t worth it. The car should’ve been priced more like a ZR1 or GTR, and definitely under 200k. They’ve always been about all the luxury and prestige at a great price.

At least the maintenance isn’t too bad!

My dad’s old IS300 didn’t have xenon lights, OMG HE BOUGHT A COMMON MAN CAR. It doesn’t work that way. It still had heated power leather seats and suede headliner.

I like electric seats, but manual seats are quicker and easier to master.

So, you’ve driven an LFA, I take it? And compared it to other cars in its price range?

Yeah luxury isn’t about a check list of features, it’s the overall feel of the car.

I can see where they’d make sense in some cases, like adjusting the big armchairs they put in stuff like an S class, but in mid range stuff manual adjustment does the job. Down to personal preference I suppose.

Well the LFA had the best craftsmanship of a car of all time, considering they spent 10 years developing it. But the price, combined with the limited availability, meant that nobody knew what it was.

The maintenance is extraordinary. With regular oil and tire changes and nothing else, the yellow LFA P014 owned by Lexus USA has 43,000 miles on it (at least the last time it was seen in December).

As long as the manual seat has height adjustment I’m totally cool with it. But nowadays even economy cars have power seats so you have no choice.

I haven’t really come across electric seats much yet, average european stuff doesn’t seem to have them. We have a newish mid range Renault that is all manual. Maybe it’s due to our harsh emissions regulation making them cut weight as much as possible by removing that sort of stuff.

Well I doubt it’s emissions. Americans have an high need for more equipment so more luxuries get thrown into cheap cars to entice buyers. I guess Europeans are fine with basic cars, from what it sounds like.

We get charged different amounts of tax depending on pretty tight emissions brackets, so it’s likely partly that. It’s also probably true we ask for less equipment though. My car’s feature list is remote central locking, electric windows... and that’s about it. It’s only 4 years old.

Yeah no. Stripper models with manual seats are pretty far from luxury. I mean shit, why not just add fucking hand cranked windows while we’re at at.

It’s one thing if the back to basics atmosphere is deliberate nostalgia. Like a Morgan or a restored/replica Porsche 356. But on a car that is supposed to be modern and have all the modern conveniences, missing stuff as basic as power seats is lame as fuck.

Hell no.

Manual seats are shit. See, with electric seats you can get very precise on how you want to set up every single angle. With manual adjustments you have to click into whatever preselected notches are on the seat. Which may be not quite where you want it.

Then, with power usually comes memory seats which let you save your preference so you don’t have to go through it every time you move the seat for something as minor as vacuuming under the front seat. Which should be every week if you want to keep your car nice and fancy looking. And since you should be paying someone else to clean said fancy luxury car, they’ll need to adjust the seat to drive it through the car wash.

Holy crap is there really a manual A7 with cloth seats and manual seat controls somewhere in North America?

It’s true, both have their benefits. I like that manual seats move quickly, but having memory when cleaning is amazing.

I agree, it’s just the benefits of manual seats (cheapness, lack of complexity) are not really compatible with the concept of luxury.

You want a stripped down track car that’s dead simple to repair and wears less than two farts? Great. Just don’t point to that as the epitome of a luxury car.

We should only lighten up on Lexus once Lexus lightens up. Stuffing pillows between the driver and every sensation or feedback mechanism doesn’t make a better car, it makes a non car.

Well most people don’t adjust their seat as often as they wind down their windows.

I never realised electric seats were a common thing to be honest, they don’t seem to be here (UK). Can’t say it’s something I’d ever consider or care about.

Given how basic my car is, I’m probably missing many more features than electric seat adjustment. Such as AC, a tachometer, cruise control, electric mirrors...
