Edit: I am writing the rules for our first design competition now. Expect the post about this time tomorrow. Due dates for contest submissions will be one week from the initial rules post.

I know at least a few Opponauts play !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (which you should check out if you haven’t already). What I’m envisioning is a post with some basic specifications (e.g. sport sedan built in 1985 with a maximum price of $25k), and then after an evening or a couple days we post our designs and compare. It could be done competitively, developing a scoring system and ranking designs, or just for friendly discussion.

I know they do this on the Automation forums already, but I’d much rather do it on here since the community is much better.

Sweet. What time works for best for you seeing the post? Would you be more interested in comparing measures lie skidpad and 0-60 and the various indices, or comparing something like track lap times?

I haven’t bought the game yet, but I’m interested in this. It would give me some more incentive to actually buy it.

I’m down for it. My car would likely be massive shit since I’ve only got like 5 hours down but I’d improve.

best time for me would be between 4-10pm EST

as for the challenges i think overall lap times would be cool, but it would also be pretty cool to have an all around challenge for the more “budget” cars

Awesome. I’ll try and work out the specs for our first post and get it up sometime tomorrow.

Competing is a great way to get better! I’ll try and draw up some specs tonight and see if I can get the initial post up tomorrow.

I’d be interested to do this. I think it could be pretty fun.

Ok. I’m going to try and get up a post up tomorrow explaining the rules of the competition. I was thinking of doing like 24-48 hours for people to design and submit their cars, and then doing a results that thread that compares them all and maybe has some polls in it for the community. On the other hand, people are busy with school and work and stuff and Friday night might not be the best time to do final results post. In the interest of gathering public opinion, what sort of timeline do you think would work best?

Sweet. Would you rather do a short term competition, like rules posted tomorrow and designs due by Thursday or Friday, or a long term competition with one week to perfect the design?

Awesome. Trying to gauge public opinion here: would you rather do short term (24-48 to complete your design and then all designs compared like Friday), or long term (a week to complete the design and a big comparison shortly after the due date)?

i think a weeklong competition would be the best option

I say we play with it and see what we think works best. We can try a short one with a couple days or one with a weekend to work on it and go from there.

Yeah, makes sense. I think I'm going to make this initial one a week long so we don't lose any potential contestant to scheduling difficulties, and if there's demand to shorten it up we can take it from there.

I keep forgetting I have this game. I bought it when it was in its beta and haven’t gone back to it since.

Off topic: Why hasn’t E. Julius driven a car in two months?

There's a free demo if you haven't tried it already. I'm working for the specs for our first competition right now, so expect the post sometime tomorrow evening. There will be one week allowed to work on the design, so that gives you plenty of time to join in if you so choose.

I’ve been with the project for a year or two now as well. It’s still in development, but they recently launched on steam early access and have added a ton of new features. You’re welcome to join in the competition if you get back into it!

To answer your question: I've been studying abroad in Paris since September. No need to have a car here, so the only times I've driven one have been the rare occasions where I've rented them for travel. Haven't driven since I went to Munich and Prague in March.

I’m reinstalling the game now.

I’d say long term would be better, since a lot of people may not have the time to get on and work with it if it’s short term.
