Kinja'd!!!

Over the weekend my wife and I were fortune enought to spend time with some coworkers from her companies Botswana location. I had no idea what to do with them..Normally when someone comes to San Diego, you take them to the usual places, like the zoo...Well, it turns out the guy was from one of the small villages in the north that is in the middle of the elephants migratory path, so something like that won’t be too impresive, especially when you can open your back door and see Dumbo and company strolling through....What to do, what to do? We started talking about cars as a classic Jag went buy. Turns out he is a car nut, so I knew immediately what to do..Off to Pearl Street in La Jolla!

What makes Pearl Street so special? Click !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and look at what is on each of the corners. On corner is Ferrari of San Diego, the other Maserati of San Diego, and if you go down the street just a couple of blocks, you’ll see Symbolic Motors. They sell Lamborghini, Bentley and Rolls Royce and pretty much any other exotic piece of metal you’ve ever heard of as well. Most all of these cars cost more than my house.

I walked in and introduced myself and my guests and asked it if was okay for them to just check things out. The show room guys were great, they let them have free run of the place. Opening doors, sitting in a few of the cars, just taking it in. Sam, (we’ll call him Sam because I have no hope of pronouncing his real name, and I shit you not, it had a click in it!) the man of the group was beyond thrilled. He said, “I’ve never seen anything like this in person, much less been able to touch it. Just on the internet and in magazines!”

While at the Rolls dealer, the girl in the showroom said that it was okay to sit in one of the cars in the showroom. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a Rolls Phantom in person and I forgot exactly how big those cars really are. It dwarfed the Bentley GT sitting beside it. Sam Turns and looks at me and says, “There are people who go their entire lives without seeing one of these, much less getting to sit behind the wheel. Even if she said no, I was going to sit in this car!” I really liked that attitude. I liked it so much that I too hopped in the Rolls. I don’t think I’ve ever sat in a seat that was as comfortable as that, in a car, in a house or anywhere else. Once you are inside of a Rolls you begin to understand just what luxury really means. Cadillac, Benz, BMW and Audi, even at their best have a very, very long way to go before they can ever hope to hold a light to it.

To me this trip represents what it is like to really be a car lover. Just seeing and feeling a the joy of just being around certain ones can bring you. Sometimes you get chances that, to others, may seem like nothing, but to us, it can be a lifetime memory. The trip made some new memories for me and I don’t think it will be a day that Sam forgets for a long, long time either.

The Rolls is an entirely different sort of elephant.
