It’s only $9,995 for the closest thing you can get to an Rs4 Avant with twin turbo goodness.

Only $10k now, but that’s really more of a down payment on future repairs.

There’s a manual sport package 545i near me for around $11k. It is very. Very. Tempting.

That 2.7T is a fun, fun motor. I had an A6 with one. Loved that car on the highway.
Check the condition of the K03’s! They’re good for about 100k miles. I’m sure you know that the motor has to come out in order to replace them. O2 sensor replacement require dropping the back of the motor too. Also valve cover gaskets tend to leak and drip on the cats. Check those too.

quicker and easier to flush money straight down toilet.

I have to agree. The propensity for a B5 S4 to consume one’s entire savings account is almost unmatched. I’ve owned 1 B5 A4 and 2 B5 S4’s. At this point in the game literally everything from the engine harness to the CV joint boots are about to go wrong either due to mileage or age. I think the silver car I owned 4 or 5 years ago had the longest ‘fault free’ running stretch at 4 months/3,500 miles. Best bet is to find some poor sap that’s already dumped 6 figures worth of parts/work into it recently and is trying to just be rid of it.

ARENT B6/B7 only like 5k more? they are better looking more powerful and just as unreliable

Kinda spendy. However, for that price insist on a fixed/new dashboard to replace the burnt out pixels.

You can get one with less miles and already built to Stage 3 (rs4 spec basically) for that price

regardless, they will empty your bank account every few months or so. I know all too well.
my old one^

Also, silver is slower than other colors like nogaro blue.

if you can’t afford to buy a US-spec RS4, you can’t afford to maintain an S4. I was pretty much scared off them when I saw more than one person recommend keeping a spare set of turbos in your garage just in case.

And Imola yellow. Mhmmmmmm.

I’ve heard otherwise...... Aftermarket upgraded turbos do exist for that.

Haha, I found you in the B5 A4 section a few weeks ago. Didn’t know you also had a silver B5!

Fun fact: I’ve got a ‘97 A4 with zero burnt out pixels.

Which is 100% worth the asking price.

Ha-ha so funny. Sort of tired of everybody saying the same fucking thing on every single post at least 5 times.

This is so tempting I can’t comprehend why you haven’t bought it yet!

Cuz it’s in Colorado, and I’m nowhere near Colorado.

Ya, had that prior to the S4 avant. Had an F350 stop dead in a continuous lane while I was looking over my shoulder to be sure I was safe to move over a lane and I rear ended it. Their massive hitch punched a hole in everything and it was totaled out. This was about 2 weeks prior to getting a huge bonus at work with which I was going to do a big ass turbo build on it. Still miss that little silver.
Despite what they say the A4 was dead ass reliable, 1.8t 5spd. Had a chip, exhaust, H&R springs, boost gauge. Only ever had to replace the clutch, but I got it with 60k on it so idk how it was treated prior to me. I used that bonus and a larger than expected insurance payout to acquire the S4 and bought coilovers, wheels and spacers, and a different brand boost gauge for it right off the bat.
I still have tons of love for B5s and will likely buy another for a rally cross rig

Yup, my ‘97 2.8 is going great and hasn’t had a single problem since I bought it a year ago. According to the PO, the only things it’s ever needed are wear items. Apparently still on the stock clutch at 140k.
I’ll always have a soft spot for B5s. If I could do performance mods to my 2.8, I would.

My local Audi dealership has one of these in mint condition, they use it as their SOS roadside assistance car. I always stare and smile when I see it.
