There was a time (in pre Recession America) that you would see tons of “pimped” out Hummers, tvs all over the place in stupid ass places like the vanity mirrors, big wheels and loud paint, all over.
Such as the one above. Times have changed. One of the vehicle of choice for bros and their wives is the Jeep Wrangler. Yea people have been lifting them for years but now in the 21st century the level of douchery is off the scale.
Wranglers like these can now be seen prowling the streets and driveways of suburban America, making terrible road noise from those never used off road tires. Ive even seen some complete with spare gas cans and a snorkel driven by a woman and her kids. In the parking lot of Nemian Marcus. All I ask is why and when will it stop. One of the most capable off road vehicles reduced to becoming a portrait for posers. End of rant.

As someone building a Jeep for its actual purpose, seeing these street queen JKUs pisses me off to no end.

No no no - the JK Wrangler is the new douchebag mobile. Leave the YJ and TJ outta this!

Some people like the look of an offroad-prepped Wrangler. This argument is purely for function-over-form. It’d be the same as complaining that the Alfa 8C doesn’t have the performance to match its breathtaking appearance. It’s just a good-looking car, and people like that.

I’m going to do this to my Jeep just to make you mad.
Though I would actually take it into the woods every once and a while, so maybe you wouldn’t be mad... I don’t know man, I just like making people mad.
Also stance is undeserving of all the hate it gets. There, I said it. I mean it too.
Fuck it. I’m going to stance my 2002 while I’m at it. That’ll show ‘em!
;)

Pretty sure its waiting for you down in Florida.

Since you said you would use it in the woods, I wouldnt get mad. What makes me mad is seeing one safari or Mohab ready, but its in parking lot of Costco.

Fair enough. I’ve taken mine off roading a couple of times though. There are some really nice, tight Jeep trails near my dad’s house that I’ve spent some time in and one of the local parks has a trail meant for vehicles. It’s nothing serious, but still fun especially crossing the small river. Plus I have a bone stock Sahara, so its not all that special. I’m not rock crawling or anything, but it can still handle far more stock than what most people use their Jeeps for (especially in my area). I honestly think I’ll keep it relatively basic whenever I start messing with it. I just want somewhat larger tires and something like Crager Soft 8s. Though honestly the stock JK wheels look awesome in black so I might just upsize the tires.
(mine’s a 2 door, but the same color)

Hey don’t be mad. The aftermarket benefits from all the extra purchases. Some companies would of folded if it wasn’t for mall jeeps.

Thats a sick forest green color. The road noise doesnt get to you?

UGH FLORIDA SUCKS THOUGH, I don't wanna leave the Jersey Shore.

honestly Jeeps wranglers have always been a favorite mall cruiser. The only thing that kinda changed is more offroad RICE equivalent mods

Thanks! It’s my personal favorite Jeep color. Shame they discontinued it. The replacement is almost as good, but lacks some of the depth. In certain light the paint looks almost black. It’s really cool.
As for the noise, around town it’s fine. I made the trip down to Charleston, SC from Connecticut 6 times last year (about 16 hours each way) and on a long trip like that it certainly gets to you. Luckily I don’t have to make that trip anymore, so it’s not an issue. Plus the Sahara has a decent sound system so it’s not too hard to drown out on shorter trips. My dad’s place it about 2 hours north of me and it never bothers me on that stretch, but after 3 or 4 hours it starts to get annoying at highway speeds. A hard top is a good way to cut down on road noise, but I’m a big fan of just being able to flip the top part of the roof back.

Off road people need toilet paper in bulk too you know. I feel like the only bad JKs are ones with chrome or have really small sidewalls. If it’s built but not used that just means a capable machine is being babied now and will be sold to an enthusiast later on who will use it.

I honestly don’t mind it, but it’s probably because most personalized vehicles in my area are female owned (single moms and ladies that recently graduated and working).
In fact, I actually associate 2-door coupes and Jeeps like the FR-S, challenger, wrangler, g37(q40/q50/q60) as pretty feminine. I can’t see ladies as douchebags. Probably a double standard in there.

I want to like the Jk wrangler but I can’t. Mabye that’s a good thing.

Thats actually pretty true. I see so many females in RT and SRT Challengers, Cute girls in FRS’ etc. Its weird.

I think it’s maybe a regional thing. Many that I see up here are more, true off road setup. But I agree - the ones with the useless big, heavy wheels and lower profile tires are lame.

Just because a car attracts the opposite sex doesn’t make it manly or feminine. Generelizations of great, complex, engineered vehicles does a deservice to other wise great cars.

Stance deserves more of the hate! It doesn’t get nearly enough. There, I said it.

I went to a used car dealership and they had lots of high end mercs, bimmers, vettes, etc but they would take three cars and park them inside at night for fear of getting the pimped out bits taken. Those were the jeeps..

Jeep makes it easier offering all sorts of questionable"special editions". I saw two this weekend, a black one with a dragon vinyl on the hood and driver's side, spare tire cover, and various interior trim bits, and another one called the Oscar Mike that's all red, has plastic red covers for the door handles, wiper arms, and a large star vinyl on the hood. Saves the "bros" from having to find a tuning and paint/vinyl shop, I guess?
I'm not saying those two looked bad (the dragon on an American Jeep in America seemed a bit odd), and while Jeep isn't as bad as Bugatti with every. single. model. being a "special edition", the "special editions" they do offer seem unusual.

So glad XJ Cherokees never had to deal with this either. It must be that AMC Straight-6. You know what? A 4.0 a day keeps the douchebags away.
![]() 05/05/2015 at 09:37 |

The only thing XJ owners have to deal with are rusting floors and rockers.

...and rear shock mounts.
My floors and rockers are good. I hope.

I never had an issue with the rear shock mounts, just the rusty-ass floors I replaced twice.

“New”?
Are you 15 years old? Jeeps have been douchebag wagons since the 80s.
