Just imagine if you would for a moment that everyone who was willing on Oppo got together and bought a community car. One person on Oppo started a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and then everyone else who wanted to be a part of it got together and donated money to buy a certain car. Say a 66 289 Mustang with a 4 speed (yes I know the one pictured is a 67).
Something like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . A cheap under 10K and if 100 people donated 100 dollars Oppositelock would own a community car. If that was too expensive you could even do a car under 5k and 100 people could donate 50 dollars and Oppo would own a car. Obviously more would have to go into the car such as insurance, title, general maintenance, etc. Maybe it is too crazy of an idea but it would be very cool.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The car could go on tour around the country and an Oppo could have the opportunity to enjoy it (with pictures for everyone else) for a set amount of time before it gets sent to the next caretaker for a week or so.
Obviously the car would have to be agreed upon by everyone who bought it. Furthermore we would have to set up a schedule for who gets the car when. In the winter months it would likely have to go south. Maybe I am totally crazy but this seems like a semi-good idea. If everyone involved was willing to play ball it just might even work.
What does thou Oppo community think? Obviously I am just thinking out loud here I am not expecting this to actually happen. I think Jalopnik would be too big due to the massive user base.

I don’t think we could agree on what to get. Maybe a Miata would work. Or some sort of wagon.

Cool idea but IMO we are way too diverse for that.

See that is what I was thinking something neutral like a Miata or maybe an old Mustang. Both are hard not to love.

After some debate I have faith we could all agree on something.

Mods get to keep the car

They would be the ones I trust the most to hold the title, insurance, etc. But if they try to steal the car from everyone else then this might happen:
Great Oppo uprising of 2015

WE’RE NOT GETTING A FUCKING BAJA BUG WE’VE TALKED ABOUT THIS DAMMIT!!!

Has to be a RWD Brown Manual Diesel Wagon, or a Miata.
Also some oppos live in different countries and will never get to see the community car for real :(

Yeah that is one of the downsides I thought of when I was making this.
Stupid ass oceans

I’m sorry you hate fun

Citroen DS or nothing

That is what Oppo is for!

I guess nothing then. DS repairs would kill the budget

Baja Bug for Community Car 2015!!
![]() 05/04/2015 at 15:35 |

We could always do regional community cars for a certain area.
![]() 05/04/2015 at 15:39 |
|
Idea:
A few new poll threads to “vote” for the common stuff.
Poll 1: Car’s nationality
Poll 2: Body type
Poll 3: Power requirement
...
See what we can come up with.
![]() 05/04/2015 at 15:45 |

Start some sort of poll, see how many people would be legitimately interested. Picking a car would definitely be the hardest part. I think spending like under $1k on the car is even better. 100 people spend $10 and boom, we have a car. I would totally pay $10 and I don't even care what car it is. As long as it is interesting, manual transmission, and most importantly has lots of character then it would be great. Sure something worth $1k would surely be a project, but then you have 100 people who can help make it roadworthy. Great idea if you tweak it as such!

Then cost of entry would go up in each region and a more limited amount of people would be interested is what I am worried about
![]() 05/04/2015 at 16:21 |
|
You think there is enough interest to make a poll?
![]() 05/04/2015 at 16:22 |
|
That isn’t a bad idea to buy a project but then who would pay for the parts?
![]() 05/04/2015 at 16:23 |
|
Not for real, just for fun.
![]() 05/04/2015 at 16:48 |

I would put in a few hundred for a cool car I got to keep for a little while.
![]() 05/04/2015 at 17:16 |

Now that sounds awesome. Might I turn your attention to some of these ideas. The only issue I see with a project car is who would do the labor.
![]() 05/04/2015 at 18:09 |

That is what I was thinking it would almost be worth doing
![]() 05/04/2015 at 18:16 |

Well you’ve got my $$$
![]() 05/04/2015 at 20:53 |

Community car is community labor!
![]() 05/04/2015 at 20:58 |

I think you would have to find 100 people that are truly into the idea of keeping something like that going. Ideally we would pick a car with parts salvageable from junkyards, easy eBay finds, and such. I don’t think the intent would be to get the car race worthy anyways. It would realistically just have a ton of miles, maybe a blown head gasket or something that isn’t expensive on parts but just takes labor. Haha I have no idea where I am going so I'll stop talking.
![]() 05/04/2015 at 21:03 |

Haha we would need a lot more than just one person. Although I would donate if the conditions were right

I just created a pool we will see what everyone says. I doubt many replies will happen but you never know
