I know, I was both lamenting the loss of grooveshark and the profound launch of that new music by the musicians (really just music by the people that writers and producers hire to spread their drivel and dross music around the world.)

Never really saw the point of Grooveshark. If I wanted to stream my pirated music anywhere I go, I’d just load it up into my OneDrive and stream it from there.

I don’t even have to bother with that though as I pay for the subscription service of Xbox Music, which also comes with its own digital locker system.

My view on this topic is rapidly becoming old–fashioned, but I much prefer to have personal possession in some form of 95% of the music I listen to on a regular basis. Whether that’s a computer file, CD, vinyl, cassette, or whatever, I don’t like letting my music collection hinge on a complicated web of licensing agreements between artists, record labels, streaming services, phone makers, and whoever else. My music is mine. I use stuff like iTunes radio and Pandora to discover new music, but if it’s something I think I’ll want to revisit in the future, I track it down and keep it for myself.

On the fence about using that one, I am deeply entrenched in the Google eco-system, but I have been using spotify for awhile and like the layout and operation of it in general better than any other musioc player

TIDAL, that is what it’s called, I totally forgot. It’s like 29.99 a month how ridiculous?!?!?!

YOU JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND! Tidal is totally worth 3x more than other streaming services. I can finally have lossless audio on my smartphone (that will immediately ruin the dynamic range with shitty decoding hardware and cheap headphone leads)! Plus the (already rich as fuck) musicians get more of the returns for their artistry (fucking AHAHAHAHAHA) without a greedy middle man taking all of the profits like with other streamers (you are supposed to momentarily forget Jay Z exists for this point to be salient)

LEAVE TIDAL ALOOOOOOOONE!!!!

I would have agreed with you wholeheartedly a couple years ago, but now I have neither time, expense, nor desire to find new music on my own or to keep up with it. I don’t even know if I still have my external hard-drive full of music anymore. It just becomes so damned tedious. It’s hard enough to keep track of all the shows that I watch, I have been meaning to set up my home media server system for real now that I have a real permanent home. Maybe that will be a project I complete this year, finally.

Yeah I could see a real job making the streaming services more attractive. On the other hand though I watch pretty much no TV and very few movies, so I don’t have to worry about any sort of video collection beyond what I make myself. Different strokes for different folks.

Yea, all the streaming music services are basically the same now except for interface preferences and slight differences in album availability.

Yeah, I’m a cord-cutter too, but there are series I watch that oddly enough do not have an online network for viewing.

And price. except Google gives you the option to have something like 2TB of storage and to create playlists and pull music from your cloud stored music regardless of licensing

Lol at the article quoting the RIAA:

“This is an important victory for artists and the entire music industry.”

No, mainly for you assholes, the publishing companies, and your filthy, filthy industry, you leeches.

I actually went and sprung for Tidal to replace my spotify subscription. On a phone with a shitty DAC, you’d never know the difference, but I’ve kinda serious stereo with a good DAC on my PC. Tidal sounds substantially better on this setup, but for most people it’s gonna be useless.
