I’m only looking on the Los Angeles Craigslist for two reasons: no rust, and all 240/260/280Zs in Canada are starting to go up to around the 15k mark (Canadian) and they never look that good unless they're 20k...

Yeah, but they’re a lot rarer in Canada, most of them are rusted away. From my point of view, this is a great price

Find a 240Z, add a 5 speed and triple DCOE 40s, trust me. You don’t want that one, heavy heavy heavy and the bigger motor doesn’t help. Find a 240 before they are all snatched up.

Yeah from a later Z, I can’t remember if the later 260s had a 5 speed, I believe mine is from a 280. Its easy for a Japanese shop to do, not a big deal for an older car like that if you can’t. The later Zs get heavier and heavier, by the 280 its something like 350-400lbs heavier and the engines have dodgy electronic injection coupled with the mass of the bigger motors sloshing around. Sure the motor is bigger but the best thing about the 240Zs (and why they won so many races, rally and road in 70/71) is the lightness and getting the lighter motor reving with some triple carbs. As an S30 owner I just want to say that you will never regret looking a bit longer for a 70/71 Z. They will get rarer and rarer, people try to buy mine all the time, before long they will be even more expensive and go the way of the air cooled Porsches. They have that 60’s feel, because they were really designed in the 60’s, they have the Ferrari GT car shape and they are fun as hell when set up right. Buy one and never sell it. On any Z, check the frame rails and the dog legs like in the picture, I cut mine out and coated everything because its a such a trouble spot. Also the hatch area, behind the rear lights and under the battery, those are common rust spots. Many replacement panels etc are made so its not a big deal if its not too bad. Better to fix and be done with it.

They really are gorgeous cars, I see a lot of Jag E type or old Ferrari in the design. Good to know a transmission swap is relatively simple!
That weight gain they had was crazy, my 350Z weighs over 3800 pounds!

At least half the Craigslist ads I see have “minor surface rust” there under the door by the read wheel wells... And its surface rust you could shove a loaf of bread through
