For me the most comfortable seat I have ever sat in is BY FAR the cloth seats from the Subaru XV Crosstrek. It feels like they are made from memory foam or something. It literally feels like you are sitting on a comfortable couch. I’ve sat in 200K cars that weren’t anywhere this comfortable.
On the other hand the seats from the new Subaru WRX are some of the worst I’ve ever experienced* but the car it self checks all the boxes other than the seats.
How hard would it be to put seats from a XV Crosstrek in a WRX? I know the Crosstrek is built on the Impreza platform so it should be fairly easy I assume.
*I’m a fairly large dude and that is probably why the narrow seats are so uncomfortable for me. Your experience may vary.

One time we loaded a leather recliner into the back of a minivan, and I sat on it.

From when I used to be a valet, the front seats in the E92 M3 were exceptionally good.

I remember I drove along in a C4 Corvette once, and that seat was really comfortable.

Personally I like the RR Phantom seats. Interestingly I can’t stand seats in most “grande” luxury chauffer cars etc. BMW seats are too tight in the shoulders for me (I’m athletic) and Mercedes, even the S class just seems to have tiny seats relative to my height and weight.

Renault Laguna. Renault do the best seats.

I’d have to go with my Yukon. They literally feel like GM took a recliner and bolted it into the truck floor.

The leather seats in the 2010-2014 Outback and Legacy, too. You can drive in these seats for hundreds of miles without being uncomfortable. My dad claims the seats in his Outback 3.6R are the most comfortable chairs he owns, and I agree.
Bonus points for the Saddle Brown leather in the 2013 Special Appearance Package.

The most comfortable seats for me were in a 2004 Ford Focus that my son bought new. It felt like every part of my seating area was fitting perfectly into the seat. Snug the belt and feel the car.

Those look like the same seats as the Crosstrek except leather clad. The Crosstrek is the most comfortable with cloth the leather makes the seat a bit stiffer.

Are you sure about that? I have a 1979 Lincoln and the seats aren’t that comfortable at all. I think it’s because the seat is too low in the Lincoln but I could be wrong.

Even though it was the biggest P.O.S. of all time, the seats in my buddy’s old ‘94 Mustang GT were comfortable AS FUCK. Seriously, they were insane.

Those look like and old lazy boy recliner. Sure looks like a nice place to plump your rump.

Well, the last time I sat in it was probably 25 years ago so my memory could be a little fuzzy. :)

Adjustable sport seats in a Panamera 4S.
True story: I had fucked my back up big time in a ski accident a month beforehand, and could not stand or walk without intense pain; but I insisted I would be accompanying my dad on his Panamera test drive (and well, I wanted to drive one!)
My first impression upon sitting in it was that the seats are perfect.
After we got out of our 20 minute drive, I was able to stand and walk around without any back pain at all for about ten minutes. The first time in a month. It was amazing.
In summary: Porsche seats are amazing and magical healing powers.

It sure was. We drove around for, like, 8 hours one day. And I wasn’t even remotely uncomfortable afterwards.

1990 generation F150 bench. (Not mine pictured) but they were plenty comfy, you could take a nap across it and I even had a short friend sit on the center arm rest as a booster so she could see better.
However those head rest nubs don’t do much. Really they just come up to the back of your to provide a pivot point so your head can smack the back glass.

The seats in my old ‘99 Grand Cherokee were fantastic. Super cushy.
My current ‘05 Grand Cherokee is pretty comfy too, but the seats are more “these seem fine” than the “my butt is so happy right now” feeling of the ‘99.

The most comfortable seat would probably be in my old Volvo 940. Supportive in all the right places - get in with a bad back, get out feeling like you just came back from the chiroquackter.
The most comfortable overall experience - taking all aspects of the car into account, not just the seat - would have been either an ‘85 Seville or a ‘96 Fleetwood. Old Cadillacs were smooth.

Oooo! My first car (1990) was a ‘77 Bonneville. Mint green vinyl seats that I do recall being fairly comfy, with a back seat that was nearly wide enough to lay down.

Here’s some seats that are NOT comfortable. The “zero gravity” seats in the new Altima. They make you wish there really was no gravity so you'd float away from them.

They’re so good. Fully adjustable including height and 4 way lumbar. They’re also heated.
Built in armrests are too close though, I always rest my arm on the console lid.

I know I sat in one of those and I was not impressed after hearing all this fuss about the Zero Gravity hogwash I thought they would of been great but they were far from it.

I sat in one at an auto show while the Nissan rep went on and on about how good they are and that they’re best in class. I got out and straight up told told him “these seats suck”

Volvo XC90 seats - drove 1,000km per day on a road trip like it was nothing.
F80 M3 seats - literally the right amount of seat firmness. Would love to try these over distances longer than a test drive...

Lexus HS250h. They’re comfy and are well-proportioned so that they’re not too small, but they’re not too wide either, so they support you well.

Alot of people are telling me Volvo has the best seats. It must be true I’ll have to check it out.
For me the 2 most important things I look at in a vehicle is Wind noise and seat comfort.

For half a million the “mibock”(Mayweather joke) has to be comfy or else whats the point?

They look good to me. Not too much bolstering which is nice for a big boy like me.

The only other possible point is to let everyone know that you’re wealthier than they are. Luckily it does both in spades. I used to think my Jeep was kind comfy. Nope. Not after I sat in the back of a Maybach. Now I understand that I’m actually just sitting on rocks covered with a thin piece of cloth.
![]() 05/01/2015 at 19:57 |

On long drives they’re extremely nice. You get out and don’t feel any different than when you started.

2004 CLK430. Sweet baby leather jesus those things are spectacular. Heated, amazing lumbar, the perfect bolster support.

![]() 05/02/2015 at 00:20 |

I believe they are very similar. Personally, I found the cloth seats to be a little too soft and slightly lacking in support for my tastes (at least in the Outback). The cloth seats in the Impreza and Crosstrek did seem significantly better than the cloth seats in the Outback, so I wonder if Subaru made some changes to the seat foam and/or springs.

I wish more companies would make bolder choices in interior colors.

I agree. Every automaker is going down the path of black on black on black interior schemes.

The thing with Renault is they put good seats even in their cheap stuff (although I would say that since I own one of their cheap cars) whereas Volvo doesn’t really sell any cheap stuff.

Renault is good, I just don't think anyone comes close to Volvo. They do cost more like you said though.

I sat in all the subaru’s at the auto show and the seats from the crosstrek IMO are vastly different than every other Subaru. The cloth in the outback was acceptable but not even close to the feel of the Crosstrek. The seats in the Impreza were just horrible.
I don’t know why they would have such different seat feel between them but they do.
