I’m a sneaker nerd. I was talking with a friend about Saucony sneakers, and they pronounced Saucony completely differently from me. I’ve been pronouncing Saucony the same way since my Aunt Joan wore them in the 80s. Have I been doing it wrong this whole time?
I pronounce Saucony, SAUK-uh-knee. My friend pronounced it saw-CONE-ee.
Who’s right?
Also, Saucony has been bringing the fire this year. Dayum.
EDIT:
I went direct to the source. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! the pronunciation is “sock-uh-knee” basically like how I’ve been saying it.
Also some of your responses show that another common pronunciation is “sauce-uh-knee” or something similar. That just sounds all kinds of crazy to me.

When I read the title of your post I pronounced it the same way your friend did. But honestly I have no idea how it is supposed to be pronounced, its kinda like the whole gif vs jif thing.

You’re pronouncing it correctly. Saucony was founded about 30 miles from me, and was named for the Saucony Creek (now Sacony Creek). We also have an area called Saucon Valley, also pronounced similarly.

I too am a shoe nerd. Fell in love with the Kinvara TR, based on the Kinvara 4, and beat the hell out of these shoes. My go-to brand for everyday wear and running. Been pronouncing it the same way as you, glad that I was right. I agree they are killing it this year, might have to get a third pair so I'm not abusing my Kinvara 5s as much.

I run in the Stabil CS3 because of my wide, flat feet.
I like a lot of casual sneakers though, that’s the majority of the Sauconys that interest me.

I run in Saucony Guide 6, probably get another pair or maybe some 7’s soon. They’ve been grade, the Guide is a stability shoe also, but good for all surfaces.
I pronounce the way you do and always have (though I listened to the guy at the running shoe store pronounce before I took a stab at it haha)

I'm definitely gonna take a look at some of their casual sneakers and see how they compare to New Balance.
