So... got some new tires for Tantor a week ago... And naturally, when selecting a tire, we all look for performance, durability and a bit of panache naturally figures in too—

Especially with dirtbike/enduro tires. The right tire can really accentuate a bike, even more so than the tires on a car. The wrong tires can make your enduro appear effete.. But big meaty enduro tires are like the ridges on a Godzilla’s back: there’s something just so primal about rocking them.

I did a lot of research finding these tires... Motorcycle rear tires don’t last long, well at least not here in Colorado where the roads are pocked by freeze/thaw pretty much year round. Hopefully I’ll get 3000 miles out of the back one... But I found some that checked all my boxes. Reviews said they lasted pretty long, have great grip on tarmac and on dirt.

But also, they looked cool as hell, and I’d never seen a pair before. I was psyched to get a tire that seemed to be as “exotic” as my motorbike. Yet another differentiation factor between my bike and the ubiquitous beemer GS’s- Huzzah!! The tires arrived in the mail and I hurriedly took them down to a moto shop here in town to have them mounted.

The owner of the shop runs a rental service where you can rent BMW and KTM enduros. He’s got a fleet of ten to fifteen bikes set up for tourists. As I was checking out his row of bikes while he mounted my new rad, exotic tires, it was at that point that I realized that his entire rental fleet were rocking the exact same tires.................

there is probably a reason he uses those tires. You should be happy, they must be good, or at least last a long time.

Oh, I’m still psyched on the tires- regardless of who else is rocking them. But like I said, it was a bit deflating to see rows of them on rentals as I was having them put on my bike...
