Kinja'd!!!

Though not on cars. This is spending my company dollars on a computer setup. If I was an Apple guy it would be easy, since that is what they use and know. However I got started on a Timex Sinclair and have no use for Apple products in general (though I used to use one in tandem with a PC on design work). Budget: around $2500 and I want that to include wireless keyboard and mouse (those can be reconditioned units though). Will be used for web dev and creative direction, and of course to fuck around on Oppo at the same time. Ps, Id, Dw will be up all the time. Dual monitor or extra widescreen. Of course if someone wants to build me out a custom box in that budget indicate so and we can get in touch. Thank you Oppo!

Kinja'd!!!

Now off to order my Blackberry Passport and hire a web developer :)

nothing hardcore for gaming or the like, just something to drive some production graphic design at a good clip

Let’s be honest. You don’t need all that much muscle in this machine. Just get the best monitors you can and decent box with dual monitor support.

holy shit! 2 grand seriously buys you alot of PC these days. I actually have a bit left over for a super ridiculous monitor too. I had dual 1920x HD on my last box and I REALLY liked how much I could get done on that

I might just change that out but I am assuming this might be a fast computer? :)

That leaves you with 1200 for a pc, possibly a video card and your cordless keyboard and mouse. What OS do you want?

It’s stupid fast. I know that Adobe stuff will eat up RAM when you are working on multiple things/programs at once and having a quad core is handy for rendering large PS files/videos.

I’m on a 4 year old Precision M4600 laptop right now with an i7 2720QM quad core, SSD, HD, 8GB RAM, Quadro 2000M 2GB gfx... and it still performs good as new. In fact, it performs better than most new laptops.

awesome. I dont know why I am so dumb when it comes to hardware these days!!! In the 90’s I think I just stopped paying attention

To be fair, it’s kinda stagnated performance wise the past few years. The next-gen Intel processors (comes out in 2016 probably) and when DDR4 gets a lot more accessible and cheaper might change things a bit, but that’s still a good year or so from now

You can do quite a bit with that budget now days. Single video card is all you need now, and monitors are cheap so you can grab 3 decent 22” for $400. All your budget is going to is memory, graphics card, monitors. Chip and board are inexpensive now compared to that. But, I would recommend a nice case for your sanity. Example, I’m using a Corsair 550D case built for silence. It has sound deadening internals and it’s VERY quiet . Memory now is 16gb for $95 so you won’t have to worry about that. Intel chips compared to AMD are mostly equal on gaming fronts however if you need to do any sort of math or encoding, Intel mops the floor with AMD’s face. So, grab a quad core Intel chip and SATA 3.0 motherboard and run your OS on an SSD drive so you don’t have to wait for anything. If you have backup systems for your projects then you don’t need raid setups for drives anymore, just run an SSD for the OS and another one for your other programs.

I kind of swear by Corsair hardware parts because they just don’t break and they are rock solid stable above design limits. PSU, Case, memory...all very good with corsair stuff.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/nz3ff7 now with 34” monitor, a hair over 2K all in. I think I am going to submit this today. Friend of mine sent me his gaming setup he just built. Look decent? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qydPNG

did you see the one Nibby built out? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/nz3ff7

Is the Corsair case a better choice for this type of rig? And thanks!

Dual xeon, ssd, 16gb ram, bluray player and 2tb storage and your wireless mouse and keyboard. Guaranteed within budget or your money back.

I know I’m dead late to this party but as I see in Nibby’s setup, that’s a single storage drive. If you have so much greenies to spend on it, maybe go with one size smaller screens but get three seagates and build a RAID, so that you never ever lose any data, ever. Of course keep the SSD for running the OS and software quickly, but then you don’t even need the biggest of that, maybe 126 is enough.

And yes, this setup is the shit. I would love having something like this to edit videos on.......

Cool. Will be all envy if this starts working, the technology i use to edit videos is slowly turning very old, but cannot budget this much money on something that’s only occasionally making me money.
