Kinja'd!!!

I just read the article on W8 reliability which was instantly followed by the W8 crave I have always had. This just ignited it to a whole other level.

http://www.w8forum.dk/forum_posts.as…

I have always told myself that German cars will take more time and money to maintain, but they are real gems of engineering. The Passat W8 is no exception, and it currently stands in my list of cars I have to own before I die.

Browsing forums I came across the picture section and was left speechless. There is so much want in this thread I can’t help myself but giggle. One day, I don’t care if it breaks down (it will), if maintenance will be an odyssey or if the parts must me summoned from a German dungeon of engineering madness. One day, I will have one.

“One day I will have one” will become “One day, I will have three. Two for parts cars.”

Like I said last time, find one of the 200 something Passat wagon W8 with a 6 speed manual! Do it. Do it. You won’t. Pansy.

Yes!!!! Volkswagen went apeshit and did some crazy awesome stuff in the 2000’s. Like the W8 Passat, W12 Phaeton, a diesel V10 in a mid sized SUV. Not too many others were taking that kind of risk, and that’s why I love VAG.

As you know, the W8 is on my list of ridiculously expensive to maintain cars that I must have.

Oh, and expect a write up on my one year anniversary with my still problem free ‘97 A4 pretty soon.

hey look a b5.5 that doesn’t have foggy yellowed headlights. Almost rarer than a W8 manual wagon

Wasn’t intended as a reply to you solely, my apologies sir. But why wouldn’t you want one? W8’s aren’t all the bad if can adjusters and timing has been done on the previous owners dime

Ha!

2000’s VW’s do suffer a lot from it.

I happen to have a Passat W8 wagon (auto, but still) - so far, so good, other than city driving being absolutely brutal in terms of cost (16mpg and recommends premium gas, which here is $3.39 a gallon)... then again, only had it for a few months, but really, it’s an absolutely fantastic car (and already saved me having to hire a moving service when I got transferred at work, moved my apartment minus a couple of cheap bookshelves in two trips of the car).
