With AMGs becoming AWD, Hellcats being awkward to come by and the VXR8 on its way out, we will soon be rather lacking when it comes to silly saloon cars in the UK, so I really hope Jag doesn’t obsess with building an M3 fighter and just builds a noisy chaos generator.

Also where are the estate and coupe variants? Come on Jag you’re on a roll don’t slow down now.

Cadillac’s got you covered .

Well, except there’s no wagon, which is what we call an estate here in ‘MURRICA.

Coupe probably won’t happen; it would be too close to the F-Type, price and performance-wise.

However, I’m fully behind the Estate version... That thing is sexy, and there hasn’t been anything new in that segment for a while.

Cadillac don’t really register on this side of the Atlantic though.

True, but then you’ll be unique.

I think in the past GM had some third-party distributor selling Cadillac in Europe and didn’t put their full corporate marketing and distribution muscle behind it. But now they’re selling directly like they do with Opel, Vauxhall & Chevrolet.

Hey you never know they might just do an XE-R variant with that bad boy in it.

By far and away their biggest problem was a lack of diesel options. Going into the European market with out a diesel option is suicide especially in the UK.

From a quick bounce through the Cadillac UK site, it looks like they still don’t have any diesels.

Yeah, I’ll take a 550hp, fire breathing, supercharged V8 Jaguar over a V6 Cadillac, thanks.

The Jaguar is hypothetical. The Cadillac exists in the real world.

Agreed. They need to put the full-fat version in. Or at least the 500bhp V8, with a performance pack upping the power to 550.

There’s a great quote from Spen King, one of the true talents smothered by the whole British Leyland debacle in the 70s. He said ‘You shouldn’t try and beat someone you should try and make something that is good, that the public will want’.

So often that rings true. Companies constantly try to make ‘M3-fighters’ or ‘911-fighters’ and constantly fail. The only people that I can think of to have beaten either resoundingly is AMG. I think it changed when they stopped trying to chase the M3 (like the C32 AMG) and said ‘fuck it, lets make something that’s an absolute hooligan’. So that’s what they did.

When the M3 had 420bhp, the C63 had 450. When the M3 had 444bhp, the C63 had 500.

You can’t just shift up to equal the M3. You have to resolutely pound it into the ground with relentless power and excellent driving dynamics.

The M3 has the weight of history behind it. You have to beat that if you want to join it.
