haha, that was because it was slightly more expensive than USB and everyone cheaped out. The actual design of it is so much better.

True story: due to legacy and issues having to do with long comm. cables, the highly expensive equipment my company makes all communicates via RS232, aka the vast majority with 9pin serial. We sell USB converters with them, of course.

I’m pretty sure most HAM radio equipment still uses RS232. I think it causes less interference.
