Have you seen the stoopid sign on the 417 west bound, that displays something along the lines of “be a safe don’t speed”? Every time I am coming up to it, everyone slams on their brakes to bellow 100km/h. How is that supposed to be safe?

Probably because everyone thinks it’s a speed trap. And 100 km/h is a perfectly safe speed, it’s just everyone is doing 120-130 and slam on the brakes when they’re scared they might get fined.

We have signs here that display your current speed and what you should be doing. I’m pretty sure I got the high score on a couple of them.

One person does because they think it's a speed trap, hammers brakes, everyone behind does the same to avoid hitting them/or because they think they saw a cop.

We had some over head gantry speed displays on a three lane highway, after a while they got switched off as too many drivers tried to see what score they could achieve.

And how it took them a year after the went up to start displaying shit.

Theres one at the transition from 60mph to 30mph limit and I mean right where it changes. So you’re still going pretty fast usually, meaning very high scores.

Exactly, for 6 straight months it’s been on testing mode.

Yes!! We have to figure that out and I’m going to write an article about it I hope. I am not sure if I am for or against, I am more like “wtf” and barely know what is going on but I think I am against.

That sign is in the dumbest spot. And it never displays anything useful. Half the time it says wear your seat belt. And even if it did tell you what is going on on the freeway (accident or whatever) it’s too far up to be useful, you’ve passed all the streets it’s reasonable to get off at except carling.

The one I particularly like reads something like:
“Slow down. Trucks needs space!”
It makes me giggle chortle every time I see it, thinking it reads more like relationship advice. DON’T PUSH TRUCKS TOO FAST OR THEY’LL RUN AWAY.
BTW, if you want to see what’s up on the electronic signs, you can view the Ottawa Traffic Services live map: http://traffic.ottawa.ca/map/index

I think its good for tickets like speeding in a school zone, passing a school bus while kids are coming on or off. But what if a cop tickets you for a loud exhaust? There is no set limit on loudness, its pretty much officer discretion. Or a ticket for not stopping at a sign for 3 seconds (as long as you come to a complete stop).

its stupid, Ive been passed by OPP on 401, like I was standing still, and he didn’t have his lights on.
![]() 04/28/2015 at 08:55 |

it’s missing an additional ‘a’
“Be a safe, don’t a speed, mamma mia!”

That is another stupid thing, especially since trucks registered in Ont are limited to about 110. Nothing like a semi, taking a few KM to pass another one.

Don’t know. Do know I have 2 loud exhaust warnings and one ticket haha.

They should put “Slower drivers keep right” (IMO)
