To me, both the outgoing 3 series on convertible and the current 4 series look “off” with their tops up. It throws off the proportions and makes them look goofy when the top is up.

It’s even worse with the M4 convertible, the boxy front and rear ends clash with the boxy top.

This is why I prefer soft tops.

Try not-beige for the E9x, helps a lot.

The 4-series does look a bit off though.

Yeah, that doesn't look good.

At least with a hard top you get the benefits (for the most part) of having a hard top when the top is up though.

Unfortunately lots of people buy them so BMW has to make them...

When the top is down I think it looks okay.

Kinja'd!!!

So not a total loss.

I guess if you could afford to have multiple cars and drive the M4 with the top down on nice days then it wouldn’t be a bad car. Plus you get to hear that glorious straight six. (but only when that six is warm)

They do look weird, because obviously a hardtop convertible’s roof needs to be shaped in such a way that it can fold up into the trunk, which limits your options compared to a normal fixed roof coupe.

I’m not sure if this is correct, but the roof on the F33 looks so similar to the old E93, that I think it might even be the same roof.

If you want a soft top convertible, BMW will happily sell you a 2 or 6 series.

Every hard top convertible I've seen looks off - starting with the Ford Skyliner. I actually think that the 3/4 series looks better than most, except the M4. The Lexus IS and Infiniti G are pretty bad, too. As a convertible owner and lover, I'll take the soft top rather than give up most of my trunk.

Definitely agree, something draws my eye to the odd proportions sort of like when I see a CLA from it’s profile view. *shudders*

I’m with you, I think the E90 is spot on.
