So I need a tool to hold my cam gear while I torque down the nut to 85 ft lb. The official ALfa tool is at least $60 on ebay. I tried making one from a 2x4 and some grade 8 bolts, but that ended poorly.
So I have my old timing belt, and got to thinking it would make a great strap wrench not just for this job, but for lots of work like oil filter swaps, tie rods, etc.
Any thoughts on how to make a handle that would compress the belt without ruining it, and also provide enough leverage to hold the cam gear in place while I lean on the torque wrench?

I made one from 1” square tube, about 1/3rd of a t-belt idler bearing race, an old t-belt, a nut and bolt, and a few washers. I don’t have it here with me, I’ll snap pics and post them tomorrow. The bolt pulls through the belt now and then, but I work at a dealership so there’s an ample supply of old belts. I use it on cam gear that get torqued to about 90 ft-lbs, it also holds decently on other round objects, though I haven’t had the need to torque anything else much past 20 ft-lbs.

Forgot I had a pic on my phone. All angles were eyeballed, belt length was basically the radius of the pulley plus the distance from the tip of the tool to the bolt. Bolt it down really tight so the belt doesn’t tear out around the bolt.
