This is obviously a sweeping generalization, but:

Jezebel : far left

Gawker: far left

Jalopnik: slightly left

Haven’t really been on the other kinja websites.

Now your turn.

They’re all pretty much centered, with all the bickering and arguing that comes with that.

Gawker/Jezebel are very left.

Jalopnik is slightly more right.

Kotaku doesn’t care.

Oppositelock is awesome.

In all honesty, it probably is. Tallying the sites for political leaning is one thing but it underlines a real problem in the US at least. We see far too many voters pick sides and rail against the other. The real problems and issues are sidestepped too often.

Every election we see things like: “This is the most polarized election in history” and recent news showed that we have the least left/ right voter preference and yet people are voting entirely left or right on tickets based on fear of the other party.

It is a mindset that I really think we need to make an effort to get out of. To stop seeing the right or the left and concentrate on what matters to us. It might be the only way to really save this nation (or even the world). Ideally we start seeing make informed decisions on things like minimum wage. Far to often even we make good decisions we are making them for the wrong reasons.

That seems pretty accurate. Commenters are more diverse, but the editorial tone is pretty clear.

Kinja'd!!!0

Indeed. It gets more complicated when you realise that our right is further left than their left.

(Unless you took a whole Politics A-level together, and got all the bullshit sorted through sheer forced proximity, it’s generally best not to talk about politics with people you like, particularly if you’ve no choice but to continue hanging around with them. Hence my never having had a political discussion with my parents, grandparents, or siblings.)

I have a minimal interest in politics so I never discuss it. I did a chunk of research to decide who I’m going to vote for and me and a couple friends discussed who we were voting for. A few of my friends said they were voting Tory and I’m voting Labour, we just sort of said okay and left it at that. I couldn’t care less what they vote for, it’s their vote.

Kinja'd!!! KirkyV > Twingo Tamer - About to descend into project car hell.
04/26/2015 at 16:45

Kinja'd!!!0

That’s the best way to do it. (I’m probably going Labour, too, but only because they seem like the least-shitty option available, of a variety of kinda shitty options. It hardly matters, anyway; my constituency’s been represented by the Tories since it was created a little over a hundred years ago, and that isn’t going to change. Unless I go Tory, my vote will count for absolutely fuck-all.)

I always say, I’m picking the guy that’s going to screw me over the least. Labour seems to cater much better to those on a lower income, which benefits my family and me for the forseeable future. Apparently where I live seems to be going UKIP mostly.

Same here, actually. UKIP are presently second in the polls for my area; I can’t say I’m overly keen on them.

As you can see, though, the only way the Conservatives could possibly lose would be for our current MP to be revealed as a paedophile, or something.

Never gonna happen. It’s ingrained in humans to pick a side. Humans learned early on that it’s safer and easier if you form groups. Then those groups started fighting other groups. That’s why everyone always picks a side and rallies against the “other guys”.

Kinja'd!!! AthomSfere > Sam
04/26/2015 at 17:32

Kinja'd!!!0

Never say never. There are obvious exceptions to picking sides. I don’t for example, not for patriotism, sportsball nor politics.

Einstein also famously ignored picking sides just to pick a side. It might be mostly instinctual and an evolved process but that doesn’t mean it can’t be over-ridden.

Gawker, Jezebel and Gizmodo are progressive liberal and a smudge of radical.

IMO, Jalopnik features stories from a few of them on occasion (which I wish wouldn’t happen) and that’s how it spreads here. The other moments are when something automotive is linked to a political issue. This is sometimes unavoidable I guess but opinions are like... holes... something something... stinks.

I wish the highly sided twisted political stuff would stay out of Jalop/Oppo so I can keep myself from having an aneurysm. Its hard enough looking over at some of the “trending” headlines on the left screen and not raging.

Farage makes my skin crawl, even more so than most politicians. UKIP seem sketchy to me at best.

Yeah if I had to bet on it, I’d bet on the Tories winning overall. Cant say I’m pleased about that though...

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, UKIP and Farage have never quite been able to shake that ‘BNP Lite’ image, for me.

I don’t reckon either major party’ll get an overall majority. Labour will probably get the most seats, but they won’t have enough to secure a decisive majority, so they’ll have to enter into some kind of arrangement with a smaller party to secure the required number. I suspect they’ll end up in a ‘vote-by-vote’ agreement with the SNP.

In other, vaguely related news: I really hope those new 70MPH speed cameras they’re rolling out become enough of a political sticking point for one of the parties to try to earn brownie points by abolishing them.

Jezebel: not a clue

Gawker: left leaning

Jalopnik: no clear political stance.

Having said all that, from a non-US Western point of view the American political landscape is a weird one. The Democrats are a moderate right wing party, the republicans extreme right wing, and that’s it due to the odd 2-party system. Where I live the biggest party are the liberals. It’s the party which supplied the prime minister. They’re probably somewhat similar to the US democrats, although they’re not as socially conservative. They’re seen as a mild right wing part here. Despite the diverse political landscape here I don’t think we even have anything as extreme as the US republicans.

The last thing we need is more cameras, 80mph is perfectly safe on almost every dual carriageway A road and motorway.

Jalopnik is far left. The entirety of Gawker media is far-left, which is why you won’t find a concrete, reasonable, well evaluated article on any site that maintains and holds concrete opinions.

For example, for awhile, Hellcat’s were all the rage on Jalopnik. Now they’re hated by the whole staff for reasons unbeknownst to us, but likely related to, bad PR or bad journalist relations.

Mid-20's Teenage minded Children run Gawker Media, in case you haven't noticed.
