This took me the whole day to finally understand.

I got it pretty quick, but that’s only because the cones told me it was an AutoX-specific joke.
The shirt I have the flummoxes everyone is the “Get in Line” shirt with the I6 firing order above it. Now THAT is esoteric.

I’ve got the Porsche, Stuttgart one...
People tend to be somewhat stymied..

Explain, please.

I thought it was just DNF.. Am I missing something?

Autocross
Flattened cones
DNF
Eff (as in Fuck)

Anyone else bothered that based on the image it would just be +1 cone? If go the wrong way around then it’s a DNF. An almost DNF but still hitting the cone is just the cone and a valid run

YEP, me too. I get a lot of confused looks

Hooray for taking a linguistics class and learning the IPA phonetic alphabet!
![]() 04/24/2015 at 20:54 |

Is there a class you have to take for that? Pretty sure I learned that in English class when I was 16 or so.

Only people I know who have ever formally learned the IPA alphabet have taken linguistics classes or advanced language classes in college. Of course, anybody who’s done a fair bit of reading or spent some time with a dictionary can acquire a basic understanding.

I guess it depends on where you live as well.
![]() 04/24/2015 at 21:05 |

It is DNF, but that still doesn’t mean a lot if you don’t know autocross and how it applies to cones.
![]() 04/24/2015 at 21:07 |

Ahh.. See.. I did not think about that, my bad.

Yes, I was speaking only for Americans of course. We are ignorant in the ways of other languages haha
![]() 04/24/2015 at 21:15 |

Yes and no. If you live close to the Mexican border I bet you speak (or at least can read) Spanish pretty well. If you live in Minnesota or Wisconsin you can probably read/understand Scandinavian pretty well. And we’ve got Boston, ain’t a soul that can understand what THEY say right? What about NY NY and Italian? You ‘Muricans got such a rich heritage it ain’t even funny, and many of you do understand plenty of languages, you just seem to think all ze words be english :P

Only problem is in my club a cone is +2s. Not dnf.
![]() 04/24/2015 at 21:18 |

If you miss a gate, it’s a DNF.
![]() 04/24/2015 at 21:21 |
|
But if you hit a cone as I said and the picture depicts it's only +2 secs.
![]() 04/24/2015 at 21:23 |
|
I agree it's plus two seconds not dnf but yeah still valid run
![]() 04/24/2015 at 21:32 |

It must have been a judgement thing when I used to autocross because if you were clearly outside of a gate but still hit a cone, you got a DNF. If the only the nose or ass of the car hit the cone, but the entirety of the car was outside of the gate, it was flagged as a DNF.
Then again, it’s been nearly a decade since I’ve autocrossed.

The club I'm in only has gates in some spots usually just a cone and a pointer cone to show which direction to go around the cone. You can typically go as wide as you like I believe figuring that the wider you go you'll probably be slower and it won't matter any how. The gates are to coral you towards a section of slalom. You should get back to the Autocross, I did it ten years ago too and got back into it last year and caught the bug...just bought dedicated wheels and tires and konis!

2 seconds each. I see 2 dead cones.

I also have the straight 6 shirt... took even my dear old dad a minute to figure out

I was hung up on it not being a dnf lol but +4 sec
