Did you ever read The Art of Racing in the Rain? Somehow, there’s a theme like that buried in there...

I was born in 99. I’m one of the youngest people on Oppo, with one of the most old-man cars there is.

It’s on my list of books to read. Just finished Iaccoca’s autobiography.

Go read it. Now. It’s a fantastic book. It’s a must-read for anyone with any remote interest in racing or dogs.

Where’s that .gif with that guy’s head exploding??? I need that .gif right now.
What old man car are you talking about anyway? Do you drive a Ford Falcon or something? My first car was a 1971 El Dorado, an old lady’s car, and I loved that piece of shit when I was 16.

There’s a book by Neil Young about cars and dogs.

Really? What’s it called? I’m serious, go read The Art of Racing in The Rain as soon as you can. It’s a very short, easy read. It’s a fun book and tugs at your heartstrings a bit too.

Niiiiiice! My Eldo was a coupe... an eighteen-and-a-half foot long coupe... Your car reminds me of my buddy’s ‘88 Lincoln Town Car that he had in high school (except yours is in far better shape). He got nostalgic a couple months ago and bought another one for $500. If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of MPG’s are we talking here? I got 6-8mpg from the 8.2L V8, but 1971 is a different era, you probably have fuel injection.
Looks like we both started our driving careers with ~30 year old cars. Learning to drive in a land yacht is a great way to learn how to drive. Have fun man!

It isn’t in better shape than your buddy’s Town Car. It has rust all over the place, a completely destroyed rear bumper, and needs a frame rail replacement. I don’t have EFI, or even TBI. I have a Computer-controlled Quadrajet. Because it has 2.21(!) rear gearing, I get around 28-30 on the highway. Thanks for the well wishes! I still really want one of the kings of land yachts - the 1977-1979 Lincoln Mark V.

Haha, you’re good at hiding all that in the pictures then. In my book, if the car hasn’t hit any mailboxes yet then it’s in great shape. I don’t even want to ask what a Quadrajet is... computer controlled carb? Sounds terrifying.
That’s awesome highway MPG with the outrageous final drive ratio, that’s a totally reasonable car to own. I was getting 11mpg max on the highway. Once gas hit $2/gal the Eldo was unreasonable to own, even for a cross-town high school commute.
In my opinion, for the real kings of the land yachts, you need to look a bit further back, just before the gas disaster of the 70’s:
1969 El Dorado
1969 Town Car
1969 Continental

I was born on the same day David Brown of Aston Martin died, we should start a race team.

At one point my family was from parts of Europe, but I was born and raised in Canada. Not sure what kind of monster we could create with that combination!

Bricklin Hellcat?

That. Or, Volvo Amazon Hellcat. As they were Volvos manufactured in Nova Scotia.
I might like this idea a little too much.

I just remembered the Hellcat is made in Canada anyway.
