Now, what if the BBC did a new Top Gear, with an all-female cast?
Jodie Kidd
Sabine Schmitz
Someone else (I’d watch Helen Mirren talk about cars)
This way, the BBC saves face, Top Gear gets a proper new direction and it might even be good television!
What does the rest of oppo think?

What is it with people and an all-female hosted Top Gear?

Short version - it will be a disaster.
Long version - too much males that have problems with self-esteem and thinking women are after their manhood. The amount of misogyny in today’s world is still huge and a lot of people are like - men=cars.
Terry Crews book is pretty nice start to understand what some individuals have problem dealing with, when it comes to their manliness.

could they? yes. Would they? no. Would it work? maybe in the long run. I think its an uphill battle for ANY crew that will replace the 3 let alone a crew so fundamentally different.

Why does everyone put so much focus on genders? I don't care what gender they are if they are entertaining I will watch

Just as long as it isn’t this , I’ll watch. Sabine schmitz doing powerslides in vans and embarassing motorcycles is a winner. I think Sienna Miller was one of my favorite top gear SIARPC guests. She deserves a shot IMO. She’s a gearhead and seemed like she had a good sense of humor.
Basically you need three middle aged-ish women who aren’t afraid to laugh at themselves and each other and use cars as the backdrop for shenanigans. Basically, Top Gear 2: Female Boogaloo.

I’d watch it. The point of top gear is not machismo. If anything, it could be a breath of fresh air in the car world to right the ship.
Unfortunately, i know watchers of TG are not as open minded as myself. For example: Sue Perkins (a smart BBC personality and host of BBC’s most dangerous road) was given a nod for potential future of TG and then proceeded to receive death threats on twitter.
All that said, i’d definitely give it a watch if it were available. If it turned to some blatent sexist joke machine i’d rather have it killed off though. World doesn’t need more of that. TG was great for the interaction between the hosts. Cars were just supporting characters.

Well, if they outright replaced the three hosts, it would suck. Top Gear needs a paradigm shift, for lack of a better term. Replacing the male hosts with women would be enough change to see the ‘new’ Top Gear without all the bagage from the ‘old’ Top Gear. You can’t have three middle-aged men do the show, or else the bagage would be too heavy, drawing too many parallels and choking the show. Three middle-aged women would give the show more creative breathing space.

The thing is there is no evidence that such a move would invoke “more creative breathing space” I fail to see why people think that if you put some “insert ethnicity or gender/orientation here” in the position previously held by what some people perceive as inferior or stereotypical, that some how it’ll improve the show, position, or whatever you’re trying to fill.
