If you make coffee mug with a cap, lid or some other enclosure, and it cannot keep the coffee inside at any time the mug isn’t standing up right...you have failed. Your coffee mug is a cup with a porous vestigial lid.

Get one of the Contigo travel mugs. I’ve got a Randolph that I’ve been using for almost two years now and it is phenomenal. Even after many four foot drop tests and breaking my fall after I fell down the stairs it still keeps my coffee hot for hours and doesn’t leak.

This is why I have coffee mugs with no openings. Now if I just could get coffee into these mugs.

This is true. Also, your travel mug with the spillproof lid must:

keep the contents piping hot for more than 2 hours and

be easily cleanable in the dishwasher and not smell weird after it’s been cleaned

Honestly, is this too much to fucking ask?! WHY IS THIS SO HARD???

How certain are you, exactly, that they aren’t already filled with coffee?

I view them as being there to hold temperature longer and to keep from splashing around.

I don’t hear any splashing.

I had a cheap $4 mug that did everything I wanted to, but I discarded it because I am a moron.

The replacement 52 oz bubba mug was as good at keeping the liquid in it as a paper bag is at containing fire.

The next replacement from the same place was a slightly more expensive name brand that the company used to replace my cheap mug. It has a slider-style cap that may as well not be there at all. The coffee spills out at the same rate closed or open.

WHYYYYYYYY CAN’T ANYONE MAKE A NO-SPILL MUG DAMNIT

I love my travel mug.

Kinja'd!!!

It is terrible at keeping coffee inside the mug. It is one of many sad compromises I make daily.

Right, it‘s been properly filled. You should be able to tell by spinning one at room temperature, and another well below freezing.

I don’t have a problem with drinks in my car because I supply spill proof mugs to my passenger. But if you’re not drinking...CLOSE THE DAMN LID!!
