Got rear-ended then run over tonight

Driving home from work. A car a ways behind me was passing people on sidewalks and the shoulder. Sitting stopped at a round-a-bout. This same car was now behind me and nudged my trailer hitch pretty good, it had been stopped behind me but I guess waiting wasnt on the agenda. I got out, as i was walking along side my truck towards this person. He rammed my truck, pushing a 5300lb truck over a foot with his car. He then backed up and went to drive around again smashing into my truck.
At this point i was standing beside my truck, he rammed the side of his car into me. Pinned me between the two vehicles and drove. I was dragged between the two vehicles, like rolling a pen between the palms of your hands. Ended up on the ground in the round-a-bout. Tried to get up but my ankle was collapsed (just momentarily, as if it were asleep, can walk on it now). My legs were gibbled. The driver proceeded to flee erratically, driving up onto the sidewalk and smashing into a bollard barrier.
An off duty, out of town, police officer and his wife helped me to the sidewalk, along with another guy with a BassPro hat so he’s alright in my books. Thanks guys.
He drove another 100m before fleeing on foot.
I was somewhat able to walk and sit in my truck, and hobble to and from the ambulance, they looked me over, and i opted to not have them take me to a hospital. Mom thought otherwise.
Both legs are fubbed, I’ve since gone to the hospital for x-rays, nothing broken. Left ankle is the size of an orange. Rear end of my truck is crushed and complete driver side is dent impressioned a la my body being rolled down it. Jeans, shoes, shirts, even my socks and boxers are shredded. Had my phone in my hand attempting to take a picture of his plate, it’s cracked. RayBans survived, highly recommend.
Since Mad Max fled, he can deny being the driver. So bringing charges against will be difficult. He also does not have to provide information if some *other* person was driving. At which point all he can be charged with is obstruction, but this is Canada and that won’t go far either. Detectives were on scene, i may have to do a photo lineup, but i didn’t get a line of sight on him until he was charging at me. So not great. There are good witnesses for the incident, but again not of the driver. My mom is my plus 1 for tonight’s date night

After coming home from the hospital and looking over my truck I see the following needing repair:
Rear bumper
tail gate
driver side of box (all one piece?)
Both driver side door
rocker
side step
at least one rim
front quater
front bumper

He was turned into the side of my truck as he dragged me between the two, you can see where his front tire started to climb up on my front tire.

I’m lucky, and ripped on meds.

That is horrific. Probably safe to assume the guy was DUI, so he chose fleeing the scene as a lesser charge. But, then he assaulted you with his vehicle in the process, so here’s hoping they can throw some serious shit at the asshole.

It sucks knowing that this is going to happen to at least another couple people tonight because some dumb fucks thought they would be fine driving after having a few. Fuck that guy and anybody else who deems it acceptable to drive under the influence. On a different note, glad to hear that you’re okay, from the sound of it you could’ve been in a whole world of hurt with this guy. Hopefully you get some justice down the road.

Wow holy shit wtf! It’s worth repeating what others have said: glad to hear you’re (mostly) OK - it certainly coulda been a lot worse. Many people do not survive an encounter with a drunk driver (for surely that is what he was) and live to tell the tale, as you have.

Here’s to a speedy and complete recovery. Hopefully they catch the guy and are able to bring some serious charges against him. I would think that a hit and run involving an injury can result in tougher charges than just leaving the scene of an accident.

I spoke with my boss and am going to be doing design work instead of gearing up to do inspection in the field as planned. Even with a rental vehicle I can’t drive so he’s offered to pick me up when I am ready to come back. I just started this job two weeks ago and my benefits don’t officially kick in until May 6, but the partners are waiving the waiting period so I’m on paid sick days.
Was hoping on going back to work tomorrow, sit at a desk versus sit on my couch at home, but the pain in my legs is pretty intense today and my foot/ankle has ballooned and the bruising coming to the surface all over as is increase in tissue pain.

Spoke with insurance yesterday, injury claim is processed and I can go for physio treatment if/whenever I feel like. Not sure on the status of the collision claim, I was told I would get a call from a different person yesterday but the injury adjuster took all the details I had regarding the collision/damage and we discussed which repair shop I would take it to. Luckily the one I wanted, and the one my friend’s dad is a manager at, is also the top approved shop by my insurance company.

I went out to my truck yesterday to get my documents and basically saw the damage for the first time. They were very clearly turning into me as they side swiped my truck, their Lincoln LS managed to climb up my from tire and almost get as high as the hood. Damage is pretty high up on my front fender. Im not in a little Mazda B truck either, I have a 2012 Silverado with a lift, so damage is over 3 feet off the ground. And I was in the middle of that.

My injury adjuster discussed suing and said she could get all the legal and lawyer information prepared. Despite what the police told me, she said I could sue the owner even if he denies being the one driving (I don’t feel right with that, just pointing out I could.. Unless I see him and am unequivocally sure it was him). If the driver is caught and convicted Im not sure what I would even be entitled to if I did take legal action.

Anyways, just wanted to say thanks and give a bit of an update.

And do not be so apprehensive about suing. Civil justice is still justice. At worst, the owner was the driver, at best the owner knows who was driving and is just not cooperating with the investigation. If his car was stolen, then that should come to light in court.

Police have the vehicle. No traffic cams I’m aware of, though there are a ton of store fronts along one side of the road so maybe security camera, but it would be a long shot, the stores are set back from the road and they don’t have a reason to point camera that way.
All I got was that he was white male with buzz cut, not much.
