Wife went on a trip to Austin, came back with one of everything for sale on-site at one of the top 5 breweries in the country. ¯\_()_/¯

It really ain’t that bad. My wife just spent a weekend in Portland and also brought me back some mighty fine beer.

I finally made it out there and while I loved the location (and will go back), was let down by all 3 beers I tried. They were just too out there to even be good. I will go back though because they have a huge menu in the main building of other breweries’ stuff

Depends on your definition of out there. If sours/wild fermented beers are out there for you, then yeah, JK isn’t going to be great for you. But, that said, even if you’re into those formats, they take some serious chances and I’ve had a lot of beer from them that I just don’t care for (Censored chief among them; one of the worst beers I’ve ever had). On the other hand, it’s that willingness to take chances that allows them to make some really, really great, genre-defying beers.

I recognize the one on the far left as one of the ones we have, didn’t try any of the others that you have in that pic.

Jester King is a neat place, but sometimes you need to try several to find one that really hits the spot.

That’s definitely one of those things with them. They’re a relatively big name, but by volume they’re comparatively tiny, and they hurt their own case exponentially by doing tons of low-volume projects and not returning to them. On one hand, it’s great to see a brewery stick to its MO from when it was a small concern and continue to push the envelope in every direction imaginable. On the other hand, it results in a huge spread between their hits and misses.
