PSA. Re:Right of way

I'm sure oppos already know this, but I need somewhere to rant...

This applies to everyone, but I'm looking at pedestrians in particular.

Right of way does not mean right to take as long as you want to do something. It means it's your turn now, kindly take it and clear the road so that the next guy can have a go.

Also, it doesn't give you the right-of-way over the laws of physics...

ie, pedestrian does an abrupt left face onto the crosswalk approximately 10 feet in front of a car approaching at 45mph. I've seen this way too often, one of the unintended consequence of pedestrian right-of -way laws is people thinking its safe to cross a street without looking for traffic.

Exactly.

Frankly I think crosswalks should be heavily enforced, and there should be an "open season", so to speak, on jaywalkers. Not saying you go out of your way to hit them, that's just the only way I can think to put it. I just mean if something happens it happens.

Pedestrian right of way seems to make people arrogant or stupid. Without a complete battery of tests I may never know. I think it has to be one or the other to walk out in front of what is akin to a 2 ton bullet just because you have a right to. But then again it might be a combination of both.
