12 Parsecs? That's cute.

You can actually measure time in parsecs if you have a frame of reference for the distance or speed, assuming that their hyperdrive works in a way to allow for compression of space-time. Just ask the Oppo Uber Nerd.

You're goddam right he did. As any good space pirate would.

I love that the X-Wings are closer to McQuarrie's original concept.

Guys, I'm struggling here. I just watched the trailer and I'm getting really excited. I'm thinking this will finally make up for Episode I. Then I remember how excited I was for Episode I. And now I'm scared....

A big part of the fun with stuff like this is all the crazy hype. Normally I'm one to advise caution, but I'd say you should just bask in it, and enjoy the excitement. The film will probably be good.

I'm pretty sure you're right. I went from a Whedonite to a Nolanite and now I'm to the point where I think J.J. has the best average between the three.

I liked that, too. They even take the time to subtly demonstrate the difference in this new trailer; the X-Wing in front of the crashed Star Destroyer is of the original style. I think it's that, along with Abrams' obvious love of the franchise and dedication to using actual physical props whenever possible - that little ball droid, BB8, is just crazy - is why I'm actually fairly confident this film'll turn out okay. I hated what he did with Star Trek, but it's clear that he had nowhere near the same degree of reverence for that franchise as he does for Star Wars.

This is probably a dumb question, because I really haven't been paying attention, but these new films take place after Eps 4-6?

I dunno; I hated his Star Trek films, though I can appreciate that they're both well-made sci-fi action flicks in their own right. Still, I have every confidence in his ability to make a great Star Wars film; the guy is clearly passionate about the franchise. There's a picture of him sitting in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, and you get the sense that a big part of why he became a film director in the first place was to do exactly that.

Yup, about 30 years hence. One theory that's rolling around is that this new desert planet, Jakku, is actually the - formerly - forest moon of Endor, having undergone severe desertification following the Battle of Endor in VII. It'd explain all the wreckage, particularly the overturned Super Star Destroyer that the Millennium Falcon's flying into in that first .gif.

Thanks. I just watched the trailer Porsche9146 posted. It looks fantastic. But after Ep 1-3, anything would look fantastic. My god, those films were terrible.
