I have privacy concerns and am deleting all content I can.
From now on, if end-user agreements do not allow full account deletion, I will not post content to that platform.

I was just looking at doing this the other day! The rust is getting a bit scary under the 4Runner and even the Passat is starting to look a bit rough, but I'll wait until early September and have both cars done at once.

Over the summer, it'd be an idea to sand off loose rust and spray a rust converter on it. The oil spray comes in cans too so you can hit those specific spots yourself.

Not a bad idea, I might need to book a morning on a lift in a local DIY garage.
To sand it off, could I just use a wire brush to break loose any bits that are starting to peel? Or do I need to really sand it down clean?

I'd use a wire brush, or wheel if you want to power through it.
If I were using a chemical rust converter, I wouldn't bother with grinding it down to bare metal; loose rust only, chem spray, dry, then top coat with anti-rust slime. Getting the loose stuff off just keeps the spray from falling off when chunks of rust fall off.
I am not a mechanic or chemist, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I've had good results with this in past though.

I’ve been using Krown, and now after 13 years of Ottawa roads I am finally getting my first rust. How sad, but I will be working on it this summer I hope!!
