So Mike and Ed are roaming California baffling the locals with extreme levels of Englishness and I'm loving it but are you or more specifically are the locals even watching? Apparently Jalopnik doesn't know it exists and I thought they would of made an appearance on The Smoking Tire podcast but nope, nothing.

If you have Velocity it is! And there are quite a few of us on here that follow it and I would dare say prefer it to pretty much any other car show

I'm pretty sure they aired it on a channel called Velocity. Some of my torrents have that channels logo on them.

Yes, on Discovery HD. I used to watch it religiously (season pass on TiVo.)

When researching my lust for an Alpine I watched their episode on an Alpine A310.

constantly shown on velocity. It's funny to see the akwardly scrypted earlier episodes vs the newer, more fluent episodes. It's a fresh take on car restoration shows. Frankly if you've watched one episode of overhauling you've seen them all. Trick person in thinking their car was stolen, chip and crew of 20 throw gobs of money at it, only the best, custom this, one off that, chip makes a drawing of the car, big reveal, owner cries. And its always the same damn car - mid to late 60's muscle car which has spent the last two decades in a garage.

Wheeler dealers they pull cars from everywhere, all sorts of different types and do something different each episode. I never knew what it would take to remove the tiny little engine from a Fiat or how to rebuild the crazy Porsche intake thing. Hell I could even fix the air ride system on a land rover. All for cheap!

sure on overhauling I'll learn how to spend $20k on a crate engine - that's cool.

I've been watching for a couple of years on Velocity channel (a car-centric channel, part of the Discovery channel family). I have a few episodes saved on my DVR (Ferrari 308 GT4, Lamborghini Urraco). I enjoy seeing Ed seemingly know everything about every car, and Mike's negotiating tactics ("come on, hold out your hand, don't be an idiot") - though I'm sure there are some behind-the-scenes TV magic in both cases. I even got into Mike's show, "Trading Up" as it was cool to see the different car cultures across the world. The "EPA tractor" episode from Sweden was hilariously enlightening!

Jalopnik doesn't know it exists?! It's a milk-and-bread caliber staple here on Oppo!

So much this. Other car shows might entertain me almost as much, but I get genuine tips from Wheeler Dealers.

Because they work on a budget. They show you how to rebuild something if you can, when its ok to get a refurb or when its smart to just get a brand new part. Plus they aren't trying to sell the cars for insane profit (Gas Monkey Garage)

WD : asking 25k, it owes us 17k, sells it for 22k. Totally fair

GM: bought it for 12k, spent 50k on it, asks 100k. It really does bug me when they find a car, clean it, fix a single tiny part then sell it for double they paid. I get finders fees and all but 90%? Damn.

I hate to say it this way but for Overhaulin' you must 1 be in southern Cali and 2 have a sob story they can sell on TV. without those 2, you're out of the running. And honestly 0 I want to see them build a car, not hear about this terrible thing going on their lives.

Can't stand overhaulin. You're right about the cars. They're all more or less the same and come out looking more or less the same. Hate his wheels too.

Absolutely. I love this show, and my boys like watching it too. I've actually learned quite a bit watching the show. Not so much to do the work myself, but just how things work. I've found it best, though, to record the show and FF through the repetitive bits such as Mike's constant recaps of what Edd's done. But the chemistry between the two is great, they get great cars to work on. It's just a blast to watch.

My boys are just beginning to discover cars, and they like watching it. One of my 9-year-olds has really long hair, and I told him he and his twin brother should dress up as Edd and Mike for Halloween.

Nice!

Mine's been obsessed almost since birth with cars. Loves them. When he was only a year old he'd try and climb at daycare to see out the window just to watch cars go by.

Plus gas monkey do some really questionable work, whereas Ed's work (besides that whole snakeskin RX7 ordeal) is always pretty good

The snakeskin, though not exactly tasteful, did a pretty good job at demonstrating the hydro dipping process. It just depends on what is getting dipped and how.

This is actually pretty awesome:

I did not! I haven't noticed the TG test track in any episode, but I'll keep my eyes open en for it now.

And seeing Ed on the show occasionally reminds me of why it's okay I'm not tall - he can't fit in some (cool) cars!

Yeah true it did demonstrate the process pretty well, I wouldn't mind getting some of my interior trim patterned with the same process.
